An interesting read from Ken Wilson at Truck Friendly, raising some important questions about caravan towing stability and the relationship between tow vehicle and caravan weights.

One thing we regularly come across when weighing caravan combinations is how much attention people give to their vehicle’s advertised towing capacity.

But there’s a lot more to consider.

A vehicle rated to tow 3,500kg doesn’t automatically mean every 3,500kg caravan combination will be suitable, properly balanced or within all its weight limits.

GVM, GCM, rear axle loads, tow ball mass and weight distribution all play an important role.
