Kenny was a great colleague and someone who also appreciated the humour of one such comedian who we will go by the name of KBC, who would be cancelled no end these days. Thank you for your friendship and being a mentor in my early days of driving taxis. RIP Kenny.

A private cremation has been held for Ken.

Pretty self-explanatory. And don't bother complaining to the company either; you'll be laughed out of the office.

A plea for anyone who has children. Especially boys.

This morning, I witnessed a group of older primary school aged children kicking and hitting a girl at a bus stop on the highway, while in school uniform.

I pulled over, got out and told the group off over what they were doing and reminded them that hitting girls and women is totally unacceptable.

As a parent myself, it upsets me that this sort of thing is still happening.

I urge you to remind your children, especially boys, that hitting women and girls is never justified. Ever. Nip it in the bud before it becomes a problem later in life.

The incident was also reported to the school and I trust that they will do what they need to do.

A blast from the past. The Triple M and Hit 105.5 building circa 1977 back when it was a TV station housing NRN11. The building has since expanded and you can still see the original building to this day. Triple M and Hit are vacating this building soon. Source: J Grant.

A Significant Development for the NSW Taxi Council’s “Make It Fair” CTP Campaign with the NSW Legislative Council's Standing Committee on Law and Justice 2025 just releasing the Report on the Review of the Compulsory Third Party insurance scheme.

The NSW Taxi Council is extremely pleased with the findings and recommendations in the report, which highlight the inequities that exist between Taxis and Rideshare, whilst calling for a fairer CTP scheme across the Point to Point Industry.

The NSW Taxi Council has been leading the charge on behalf of Industry, by initially making a detailed submission into this Review, which then followed by the NSW Taxi Council CEO, Nick Abrahim being invited to provide evidence at the Hearing held in NSW Parliament on 8th December 2025.

Following the Hearing, the NSW Taxi Council and CTOA partnered with Business Sydney in developing the "Make It Fair Campaign", with continued calls for a fairer CTP Scheme for Taxis and Rideshare.

Below is a summary of the key finding and recommendations included in the report released yesterday:

FINDING 1 :
There is an ongoing decline in the number of taxis on New South Wales' roads, linked to the legalisation of rideshare operators in the point-to- point transport sector. This has negatively impacted on access to taxi services in rural and regional areas, including wheelchair accessible taxis.

RECOMMENDATION 1 :
That the State Insurance Regulatory Authority finalise changes to the appropriate guidelines within six months of the tabling of this report, grouping taxis and rideshare operators in a single class for CTP insurance. In doing so, SIRA should have regard to the models adopted in Queensland and Victoria, where all point-to-point service providers
are placed within a single class for the purposes of CTP insurance.

We are now calling on the NSW Government to adopt and implement the recommendations as outlined in the report within 6 months of the report being tabled.

Thank you to the Committee for Law and Justice, led by Chair, The Hon Greg Donnelly MLC and Deputy Chair, The Hon Susan Carter MLC.

Special shout out to Committee Representative, Independent m The Hon Rod Roberts MLC for his continued support and collaboration with the NSW Taxi Council.

Recently, I had to make a decision that, admittedly, has not gone down well with a small number of people locally who have seen fit to take to social media to complain, which is their right, but I feel I need to have a right of reply. That decision is that I have had to take my maxi taxi off the road on Sundays. This was a purely business decision and nothing else.

I have no choice but to absorb rising fuel costs, and it is eating into my profitability. Sundays of late have not been very productive based on my figures. After I have paid the driver and the bills, I am left with very little or in deficit. As someone with a young family to support, this is a situation that I cannot be in.

I understand that maxi taxi services in this town are not as good as they used to be, but this is not a problem unique to Coffs Harbour. It is statewide. Just a few years ago, there were close to 1000 maxi taxis across NSW. That is now close to 600 and may be less now. The main reason is that these are expensive to run, even with government support in the form of lift fees and operational grants. The other challenge is trying to get competent and accredited drivers to drive the maxi taxis. Being accredited is the main point here. If you’re not accredited, you cannot drive a maxi taxi.

I cannot speak for other operators but I am of the understanding that there will be at least one other maxi on the road on weekends or Sundays.

It is better for me to take the maxi taxi off the road on Sundays to protect the viability of my business rather than cop continual losses, which will eventually result in me not providing a maxi taxi service at all, and that will be a far greater tragedy for Coffs locals who rely on me during the week.

If going on social media to make me out as the bad guy makes you feel any better, go right ahead. But these are the facts. No reasonable person would expect a business operator to open up on days that are not profitable. Most people are supportive and understanding of my decision, and I will not be swayed, or be made to feel guilty by a vocal minority with an axe to grind.
