We're so very proud of our launch crews. The Halifax Harbour Pilots are lucky to have you. Always ready to respond, no matter the conditions..

Thank you lads,

Halifax Harbour Pilots.

This morning, on behalf of Halifax Regional Council, Councillor Hinch joined me in recognizing and thanking the Pilot Boat crew, including Launch Master John Burke and Deckhand Scott O’Reilly, for their heroic response to the mayday call on the evening of Friday, January 24, 2025.

John and Scott were the first on the scene, pulling two RCN sailors from the waters of Bedford Basin and transporting them to shore.

We are deeply grateful for their quick response, bravery, and selflessness in the face of an emergency. Their actions, along with the efforts of all first responders that night, reflect the very best of our community—stepping up in moments of crisis to help others.

Our thoughts remain with the family, friends, and colleagues of Petty Officer 2nd Class Gregory Applin. Halifax stands with you in this difficult time.

Thank you, John and Scott—your courage and commitment do not go unnoticed.
