Taxi drivers in Red Deer endure a lot. Are all our drivers perfect? Nope.
But they are human beings just trying to make a living, raise a family, pay their rent or mortgage, and contribute to the community just like rest of society!
And yet day after day and night after night they are treated poorly, are victims of racism and are put in danger situations just to make a living.
Over the years we have had numerous drivers assaulted. Some causing lifelong injury.
Yet this driver sits calmly while he is berated by an unprovoked, obviously intoxicated customer, putting him in a very uncomfortable and dangerous situation.
Nobody just doing their job deserves to be treated that way, no matter how much their profession is looked down on by society.
Many of our drivers are highly educated. They were doctors, dentists and lawyers in their home country. Unfortunately their education and credentials just don’t translate to the Canadian standards.
Please remember in the future…. someone has to drive the taxis, deliver the pizzas, work in fast food, retail, customer service and do the ‘not so glamorous” jobs.
As small business owners we put up with a lot. Bad google reviews in the heat of anger, customer complaints, Facebook rants….everyone has the right to their own opinion and the right to express how they feel. This is part of doing business. You take the bad with the good and do your best to improve.
What we cannot condone is exactly what’s in this video.
Racism is not ok ever. Please treat our drivers with respect.
