Community bus volunteers need people to help them operate a Saturday service that runs between Bridport and Crewkerne.
The team behind the CB3 Beaminster Community Bus have put out a plea for more ‘clippies’ to collect fares and issue tickets to passengers, help people to board and ensure the bus keeps to its timetable.
Volunteer Wendy Wallbridge (pictured with volunteer driver Tom Roberts) said: “Can you spare a few hours, or do you know someone who can?
“This important community bus linking Bridport and Crewkerne and villages in between operates on Saturdays only.
“We rely entirely on volunteers and are in desperate need of clippies to be able to keep this service going.”
The CB3 community bus project started in 2018, when Dorset Council donated a minibus that was surplus from its own fleet and helped to train up volunteer drivers.
Now supported by Beaminster Town Council, it picks up and drops off at Beaminster, Chedington, South Perrott, Misterton, Crewkerne, Drimpton, Broadwindsor, Netherbury, Melplash, Bradpole and Bridport.
The full timetable can be found on the Beaminster Town Council website, or you can call 07716 643087.
Cllr Craig Monks Beaminster Ward has been a volunteer driver with the CB3 for more than six years.
He said: “It’s genuinely one of the most enjoyable things I do. The passengers and people I meet along the route make every journey worthwhile; it’s a real community on wheels.
“The success of the CB3 has also helped me secure funding from Dorset Council for a new Saturday service, allowing us to expand our timetable and reach even more rural West Dorset villages.
“But the service relies on volunteers, so if you’re interested in joining us or would like to know more, please do get in touch.”
