The Ultimate Human Race: A Comrades Marathon Story

At Biocair, we’re proud of the people behind our global operations and the diverse passions they bring outside of work.

One of our team members, Siyabulela May, recently shared his experience of completing the Comrades Marathon, one of the world’s most iconic ultramarathons.

It all began as a dream in 2012, and Siyabulela went on to complete his first race in 2019. He has now completed the race three times in total, including two Up Runs and one Down Run.

Known as “The Ultimate Human Race,” Comrades is a race of around 85–90km between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, attracting 18,000–22,000 runners each year. While the distance is demanding, it is often the mental challenge that defines the experience.

As Siyabulela shared, “Comrades is far more than a race—it’s a journey of self-discovery, resilience, discipline, and perseverance. It teaches you to push beyond your limits and embrace challenges with determination. It has shown me that with commitment, accountability, consistent effort, and passion, you can achieve far more than you ever thought possible.”

These qualities strongly reflect the way we work at Biocair. Whether navigating complex global supply chains or delivering time-critical, temperature-sensitive shipments, success depends on preparation, accountability, and the ability to keep moving forward under pressure.

We’re proud to celebrate the achievements and experiences of our people, both inside and outside of work. Huge congratulations to Siyabulela on this incredible achievement!

We spent an inspiring day in Antwerp at for Growth 2026, Europe’s leading health innovation conference bringing together biotech, pharma, medtech and digital health leaders.
This year’s theme, “No borders, just breakthroughs,” came to life reinforcing that innovation thrives at the intersection of disciplines, sectors and geographies.
𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬:
🔬 Collaboration is essential – cross-border partnerships drive real innovation
🌍 Europe’s life sciences ecosystem is strongest when it joins forces, combining scientific excellence with scale and investment
💡 Breakthrough therapies need both cutting-edge science and reliable infrastructure
At Biocair, we’re proud to support this ecosystem behind the scenes. Every innovation depends on a supply chain that is just as precise and resilient – from clinical trials to commercial delivery.
A big thank you to everyone we connected with – it was great to exchange insights on the evolving challenges across the life sciences sector and explore how logistics can accelerate innovation rather than limit it.

Uncertainty is one of the biggest risks in life sciences logistics. Not knowing where a shipment is, its status, or what happens next can delay decisions and increase exposure.

Biocair Connect provides visibility across every stage of the shipment journey, from booking and documentation to tracking and updates. Clear information supports faster responses and more informed decisions.

Hosting a global mega-event takes a huge amount of coordination and for the first time ever the FIFA World Cup will be staged across three countries. With 48 teams, multiple host cities and millions of fans on the move, the tournament is a reminder that global performance relies on every link in the chain working together.

At Biocair, that is what we do every day. Our teams coordinate time-critical life sciences supply chains across more than 160 countries, with the kind of teamwork that major global events demand: local expertise, international coordination and the ability to adapt quickly when timing matters most.

Whether it is managing cold chain supply, supporting clinical trials or navigating complex international routes, our teams work behind the scenes so progress can keep moving forward. In football and in logistics, the best results come from people working as one team with a shared goal.

This summer, as the world watches what it takes to deliver a tournament on a global scale, we are proud to recognise the teamwork, planning and precision that power international logistics every day.

What matters most when transporting sensitive, temperature-controlled materials across global markets?

For Hongyun Tai, CEO and Co-Founder of Branca Bunus Ltd, a University College Dublin spinout specialising in non-viral gene delivery platform technology, the answer is clear: reliability and consistency at global scale.

"Biocair is a really global company and has lots of experience helping customers with delivery logistics. The quality, stability and reliability really stand out compared to other logistics companies."

For organisations working in highly sensitive and fast-moving areas of life sciences, dependable logistics is essential to keeping research and innovation moving across borders.

Thank you Hongyun for sharing your experience!

What do global life science logistics and a Bake Off have in common? 🌍🍰
More than you might expect.
At Biocair, every shipment relies on:
🔬 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 – small details make a big difference
⏱️ 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 – every step matters
🌡️ 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 – consistency is key
📦 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 – protecting what matters most
Turns out… baking isn’t so different.

This week, our UK office brought these shared skills to life at our 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐎𝐟𝐟, with fantastic entries inspired by regions where we operate around the world. From cakes to muffins, the competition showcased impressive skill and international flair.

A big thank you to everyone who baked, judged, and joined in – making it a great example of the collaboration and culture that bring our teams together.

Because whether it’s delivering vital therapies or a perfectly baked cake – care, precision, and teamwork make all the difference.
