The Ultimate Human Race: A Comrades Marathon Story
At Biocair, we’re proud of the people behind our global operations and the diverse passions they bring outside of work.
One of our team members, Siyabulela May, recently shared his experience of completing the Comrades Marathon, one of the world’s most iconic ultramarathons.
It all began as a dream in 2012, and Siyabulela went on to complete his first race in 2019. He has now completed the race three times in total, including two Up Runs and one Down Run.
Known as “The Ultimate Human Race,” Comrades is a race of around 85–90km between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, attracting 18,000–22,000 runners each year. While the distance is demanding, it is often the mental challenge that defines the experience.
As Siyabulela shared, “Comrades is far more than a race—it’s a journey of self-discovery, resilience, discipline, and perseverance. It teaches you to push beyond your limits and embrace challenges with determination. It has shown me that with commitment, accountability, consistent effort, and passion, you can achieve far more than you ever thought possible.”
These qualities strongly reflect the way we work at Biocair. Whether navigating complex global supply chains or delivering time-critical, temperature-sensitive shipments, success depends on preparation, accountability, and the ability to keep moving forward under pressure.
We’re proud to celebrate the achievements and experiences of our people, both inside and outside of work. Huge congratulations to Siyabulela on this incredible achievement!
