🟨 UNLICENSED PRIVATE HIRE OPERATOR OFFERING ILLEGAL RIDES VIA FACEBOOK HAS VEHICLE SEIZED IN DONCASTER

An illegal private hire operator offering unlicensed rides over Facebook has been taken off the road after a joint sting by Doncaster Council and South Yorkshire Police.

The operator first came to the attention of authorities after advertising fares on social media. Despite being officially warned by the council that they needed proper licensing, vehicle testing, and insurance, the company brazenly continued to operate illegally.

In response, undercover licensing compliance officers posed as customers and booked a ride to catch the operator in the act. When the driver arrived at the designated pickup point, police and council officers were waiting.

The vehicle was immediately seized after it was confirmed the driver was unlicensed, the operator was unauthorised, and the car lacked the necessary insurance.

Following the seizure, City of Doncaster Council is urging the public to always use legitimate, licensed taxi services for their own safety.

"Drivers who are unlicensed undermine those who uphold professional standards and adhere to the law," said Councillor Gemma Cobby, Cabinet Member for Regulation and Enforcement.

"They are unvetted, often uninsured, and unsafe. That is why our diligent licensing and compliance teams work hard to keep them off the roads. As this recent case shows, we will catch them."

Councillor Cobby reminded passengers that all licensed drivers must carry an identity badge with the council's logo, and their vehicles must clearly display a licence number and official plate. She urged anyone with concerns about an operator or driver to report them to the council immediately.👁️‍🗨️

🎄 A CRITICAL HOLIDAY SAFETY WARNING! PLEASE READ 🚨

This Christmas and New Year, your safety must be the priority.
Please, STOP getting into cars with random "drivers" from Facebook or local advertising groups 😡🚫. During the busy holiday season, loads of people become unofficial taxi drivers without legitimate paperwork or insurance.

If you use private, unlicensed transport services — whether for nights out, airport transfers, or trips around the country — you are putting NOT ONLY yourself, but also others at significant risk!

This is not something to take lightly. Providing passenger transport without the proper licence is a serious OFFENCE!

For passengers, choosing unlicensed transport means:
* ❗ NO INSURANCE WHATSOEVER — If there is an accident, you are left alone with the costs, treatment, and all the devastating consequences. Legitimate Hire & Reward passenger insurance is essential.
* ❗ Vehicle and Driver Safety Risks — Unlicensed cars often haven't passed the necessary safety checks, and drivers haven't passed the background checks required by the council.
* ❗ Loss of your luggage with no chance of compensation.
* ❗ Risk that the driver runs away after an incident because they are operating illegally.
* ❗ Possible questioning or involvement with the police if they stop such an illegal "operator."
Just because someone has a fanpage, a logo, nice photos of a car, or writes in a group "cheap transport, we pick up and drop off" DOES NOT mean they are legal. Transport services are strictly regulated and monitored.
Protect Yourself: Always Ask For Real, Physical Proof!
A legitimate, licensed driver and vehicle will NEVER have a problem providing the following:

* 🟦 A Private Hire or Taxi licence issued by the local council.
* 🟦 The vehicle licence plates and driver ID numbers (these must match the person and car you are using).
* 🟦 The name of the officially registered company (Operator Licence)
* 🟦 Confirmation of appropriate passenger transport insurance (Hire & Reward).

Someone who gets angry, avoids the topic, or makes excuses is hiding something illegal.

Do not risk your health, safety, or money just to save a few pounds, especially during the festive period. Choose officially licensed taxis, minicabs, or registered transfer companies. Your safety is more important than a "bargain" you found online. And don’t recommend people whose legality you haven’t checked — you could be causing serious problems for others.

Take care of yourselves this Christmas. And don’t let anyone fool you. Choose licensed and insured travel! 🚔✋
