Rediscover the Island Magic ✨

As we continue celebrating 175 years of CalMac’s roots, we’re honoured to share another island story.

This one comes from Alex — thank you for sharing these special memories with us.

Taken on the Isle of Lewis, these two photos capture the same moment in the same place — 50 years apart.

As boys, two brothers stood together in Uig, a memory captured by their mum. Not long after, life took them in different directions, with Calum moving overseas to Australia and later Macau.

Though there were visits back to Scotland over the years, it would be more than 40 years before they found themselves standing side by side in that same spot again.

On their return, their mum recreated the photograph — capturing not just the image, but the feeling that had never left.

“My mum took both photos, trying to recreate the magic that we felt then — and still do now.”

Some journeys don’t just take you somewhere — they bring you back.

Where will your next journey take you? 🩵
