Earlier this year, we helped raise awareness of the importance of giving blood, but the need continues all year round.

With blood stocks across Scotland under pressure, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service - SNBTS is appealing for more donors.

A great morning at the launch of Spirit Aid’s Christmas Toy Appeal 🎄🎁

We’re proud to be supporting the campaign for another year, with Glasgow Taxis drivers helping to collect and move donated toys throughout the appeal.

It was great to join the Lord Provost of Glasgow, David Hayman, Bernard Ponsonby and others today as this year’s campaign got under way.

If you’d like to help make sure a child gets a visit from Santa this Christmas, you can donate a new, unwrapped toy to Spirit Aid.

𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁𝘀

An emotional reunion took place this morning as Glasgow Taxis driver Charlie Matthews met passenger Jake Sinclair, less than three weeks after a routine journey almost turned to tragedy.

Towards the end of a short early morning hire to Stobhill Hospital, Charlie noticed Jake was suddenly slumped and struggling for breath in the back of his cab, and instantly knew the gravity of the situation. Realising every second counted, Charlie sped to alert hospital staff, who promptly rushed outside and immediately administered CPR, successfully restarting Jake’s heart. He was then taken on to Clydebank’s Jubilee Hospital for further emergency care.

In the days that followed, as Jake started his recovery, his daughter Donna reached out to Glasgow Taxis to thank the driver, his identity unknown at that point. It soon emerged that Charlie was the driver who had played such a critical role in helping Jake when it mattered most, and he and everyone at Glasgow Taxis was delighted to hear Jake was on the road to recovery.

Now recovering steadily, and following a couple of weeks of quiet R&R, Jake finally met Charlie again today to deliver the thank you of a lifetime, in the company of Donna. Emotion and humour were in equal order, and the friends reunited have vowed to keep in touch.

Charlie, we are immensely proud of you and, Jake, we wish you well for a safe and strong recovery in the fullness of time. Our thanks also to the NHS staff at Stobhill who ultimately saved Jake’s life.
