May 2nd and still Jah is testing our likkle Ras. But, he remains positive and knows nuttin happen before di time. Cast is off and new x-rays were taken this past Friday in Sav. Bones are healing, but not in proper position and O's not able to bend his knee. Dr. confirmed bones will need to be re-broken during surgery and implants (rods/pins) will be needed.Government covers cost of public Dr, actual surgery and hospital stay. However, Omar will be responsible for the cost of the implants which at a minimum will be $500usd, which he doesn't have. Our dear fren Chris Horton (managing Omar's GFM account) has raised our goal to $2,000usd to hopefully cover the implant costs, travel expenses, etc. Also, patients are responsible for 95% of the cost of food during their hospital stay. Also, Omar will require PT after surgery to ensure leg/knee operate properly. So, here we are again, looking to Omar's many frens for their continued support both spiritually and financially. If at the end of the day you find a few extra coins in your pocket, please share with Omar https://www.gofundme.com/loveforomar. In case you weren't aware, GFM takes a percentage of monies raised to cover their service which is understandable, but that also means Omar doesn't receive the full amount raised. One Love from Omar and Diane.

This past Saturday night (20-2-2016) about 8:30pm, our dear little Ras Omar Scott (a well-known and beloved taxi driver in Negril for many years) was hit while walking on the road in Sheffield by a speeding biker. The biker initially left the scene, returned and a taxi driver stopped to transport...

Make sure you're sitting down while reading this post! Yesterday (Mon) was the 3rd trip Omar made to Cornwall to be admitted for surgery. Well, it didn't happen again - beds were 'full up' due to emergency motorcycle accidents primarily from Westmoreland over the weekend. (Thanks to the growing number of people bringing cycles into Ja and selling them to untrained drivers who then don't bother/can't afford to get the proper registration, etc. papers!) If an ambulance had been available on Feb 20th - don't get me going on that story - Omar would have/should have been taken directly to Cornwall and not Sav. Dr. told Omar yesterday that there are patients in Cornwall who have been waiting for over a month for the surgery schedule to open. His cast is breaking down, but they weren't able to recast it yesterday due to lack of staff! Yes, I'm aware we live in a Third World country, but it is 2016 if memory serves me well; but, yet the government doesn't seem too concerned about the people. OK, next step: Omar goes to Cornwall again this coming Mon (April 25th) and if there are no beds available, Dr. will refer him to UWI-Kingston (don't ask me whey he didn't do that yesterday?????). There is no guarantee that UWI will have available beds - you can't call to check, just gotta show up - and then he'll be stuck in Kingston ......... These trips back and forth are expensive as he's in a cast and needs to 'charter' the back seat of a taxi (most drivers won't even pick him up because of his cast) and he doesn't get the 'route' taxi rate! Many of these drivers Omar has carried for free over the years when they didn't have cars, but they don't seem to remember that.
Omar is frustrated for sure, but is hanging in there and keeps trusting Jah will see him through this. He's also very thankful to all his friends who have supported him along this journey. Bless and One Love from Omar and Diane.

Our likke Ras Omar spent his 50th Earthstrong (April 11) traveling up and down the road to MoBay to be admitted to Cornwall for his leg/knee surgery. (Not exactly the big celebration we were planning.) Believe it or not, the 50-bed surgical ward was full along with the benches available for pre-op patients due to a high level of emergency patients admitted over the weekend. So, "no room at the Inn" for Omar - back to Negril to wait another week. He's going to start calling Cornwall Sat, Sun and Mon before making another trip to MoBay for nothing. Please remember his accident was Feb 20th, and no medical procedures have taken place (except for the casting of his leg and knee and MRI/CT scans). In spite of this nightmare scenario, Omar is in pretty good spirits. Please continue to keep him in your prayers and trust Jah will get him through this coming Monday. Diane

Omar asked that I update you on whaagwaan in his life right now. He's moving around quite well on his crutches despite the fact that the rubber tips aren't designed to last when walking continuously on marl, rocks and sand. Being an innovative Jamaican, he's tried replacing them with tires, etc. which hasn't really worked well. His first appointment with the orthopedic surgeon at Cornwall/MoBay is this coming Monday, 4/4. We don't have a clue if they'll admit him or just schedule surgery down the road - frustrating to say the least. We'll know when we know. Being Omar tho, he still keeps smiling, laffing and giving thanks for life and all the friends he has who continue to support him. Attached is a recent pic. Please keep him in your prayers that he won't need rods, pins etc. since he's responsible for the cost of the implants. Believe it or not, if he needs an implant, Dr will write a RX and Omar will need to go to the implant store to buy before surgery can take place - only in Jamaica Land We Love. Blessings from Omar!

OMAR UPDATE: MRI & CT scans were completed last week. Needed to have his cast re-casted Friday past, we were able to talk to his Sav Orthopod and he moved up Omar's appointment with him to this coming Thurs. Sav Hosp doesn't have a functioning Operating Room. So, he'll be referred to new Orthopod at Cornwall/Mobay and have surgery there - hopefully soon. His GFM account is approximately $250usd under his goal. Omar says thanks again to everyone who has contributed to his fund - Bless and One Love - Omar and Diane

MRI & CT scans went well yesterday - waiting for results and then appt for Orthopedic Doc to sked surgery - Omar's spirits are up and he continues to thank all of his frens for their support! One Love from Omar (Diane).

Omar asked me to share that he is humbled by your generosity and expressions of love to him. You can't help getting caught up in his good soul and his willingness to share not only good times with us all, but be there for us when we're in need. This new journey he's taking will not be an easy one. But, knowing how many good people are there for him and his strong belief in Jah, is giving him the needed strength to overcome this 'bump in the road.' Giving thanks and praises - Bless and One Love (Diane Mosier for Omar Scott).
