IT’S OFFICIAL — OCDN HAS ARRIVED!
What started as a vision to unite online cab drivers has now become a registered reality!

After months of meetings, consultations, challenges, sacrifices and determination, Online Cab Drivers Network (OCDN) officially has its certificate.

But let’s be clear… THE CERTIFICATE IS NOT THE FINISH LINE... IT’S THE STARTING LINE!

Membership cards are now available.
We are working on opening our official bank account.
Shares/Savings & Welfare Kitty are the next major steps.
We are building stronger structures for driver welfare, representation and empowerment.
And most importantly .... we are preparing to unite drivers beyond individual platforms.

The vision is bigger than a certificate. We want to build something drivers can proudly call their own.

To every driver who believed when this was just an idea THIS ONE IS YOURS!

Now the question is not “Can drivers unite?”
The question is: HOW FAR CAN WE GO WHEN WE FINALLY DO?

📌 Read the full official notice below and be part of the next chapter.

UBER KENYA THIS COMMENT SHOULD MAKE YOU RETHINK THE POLICY.

«By deactivating, they lose the only pathway to recovering their money.»
Read that again.

If a driver owes commission, the goal should be to recover the money.
But if you deactivate the driver and cut off their ability to earn, what happens?

No trips.
No income.
No repayment.

So what exactly are we achieving?
We are NOT saying drivers should avoid paying what they owe.

We are asking Uber to consider smarter recovery mechanisms:

✅ Let the driver continue working
✅ Allow partial payments
✅ Deduct an agreed percentage from future earnings
✅ Give realistic repayment timelines
✅ Keep the driver earning while the debt is being recovered

Because you cannot demand repayment while simultaneously destroying the income stream that makes repayment possible.

UBER KENYA, THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK. IT'S A POLICY CHALLENGE.
If the objective is to recover your money, design a system that actually recovers it.
RECOVER THE COMMISSION.
DON’T DEACTIVATE THE INCOME THAT PAYS IT.

UBER, DON’T DEACTIVATE DRIVERS FOR COMMISSION ARREARS - GIVE THEM A WAY TO PAY!
We understand that Uber has a right to recover its commission. But deactivation should not always be the first solution.

WHY NOT INTRODUCE A CARD-TRIPS-ONLY RECOVERY SYSTEM?
For example:
A driver owes KSh 5,000 in commission arrears.
Instead of completely deactivating the account:

➡️ Allow the driver to continue working.
➡️ Restrict the account to card trips for a defined recovery period.
➡️ Automatically deduct the outstanding commission from eligible earnings.
➡️ Once the balance is cleared, restore normal trip access.
This creates a WIN-WIN situation.
DRIVER: Gets an opportunity to keep earning and recover financially.
UBER: Recovers its outstanding commission without completely removing an earning partner from the platform.

THE PRINCIPLE IS SIMPLE:
DEACTIVATION STOPS THE DRIVER FROM EARNING.
A CONTROLLED CARD-TRIP SYSTEM HELPS THE DRIVER PAY.

We are NOT asking Uber to forgive genuine commission arrears.
We are asking Uber to consider a smarter, more sustainable recovery mechanism that allows drivers to work their way out of debt.
Because sometimes a driver isn't refusing to pay.

THE DRIVER JUST NEEDS THE OPPORTUNITY TO EARN FIRST.

Uber Kenya, can we rethink this policy and give drivers a path to recovery instead of a dead end?

WAKE-UP CALL TO EVERY ONLINE CAB DRIVER IN KENYA

This may be controversial- but it needs to be said.

EVERY ONLINE CAB DRIVER NEEDS TO BELONG SOMEWHERE.

Nobody is forcing you to join OCDN.

There are already different drivers’ groups, welfare teams, associations and organisations across the country. Choose the one you believe in. Support it. Participate in it. Build it.

But whatever you do, DON’T REMAIN ALONE.

For the majority of us, online cab driving is not just a side hustle. It is our livelihood.

We have taken loans to acquire vehicles.
We have spent years servicing those loans.
We sacrifice our time, energy and family time every single day.

And yet, when we think about the future, what do we have?

Where is our retirement plan?
Where is our welfare system?
Where is our emergency support?
Where is the plan for the day we can no longer drive?

The uncomfortable truth is that every day on these roads carries risk.

You can be the most careful driver on the road and still have your life changed in seconds because of another road user’s mistake, an accident, illness or an unexpected tragedy.

So how long are we going to keep saying:

“UKICHOKA JITOA.”

Maybe it is time to change the narrative.
This industry has enormous potential. What we need is organisation, unity and a long-term plan.

Imagine an industry where drivers collectively build:
✅ Strong welfare systems
✅ Emergency support
✅ Investment opportunities
✅ Affordable driver services
✅ Better representation
✅ Financial empowerment
✅ And ultimately, a retirement system where a driver can continue benefiting from the industry even after leaving the steering wheel.

That future is not impossible.
But it cannot be built by drivers who only come together when there is a crisis.

NOW FOR THE CONTROVERSIAL PART:
If you choose OCDN, become an active member.
If you choose another organisation, support and build that organisation.
If you choose to operate independently, that is your right.
But understand one thing:
Organised welfare requires organised membership, participation and responsibility.

We cannot build sustainable welfare systems if people only appear when there is a crisis, a critical accident, a driver who has lost a loved one, or a captain who urgently needs financial assistance.

Before asking, ask yourself: “What system have I been supporting?”

This is not about abandoning anyone in their darkest hour.
It is about creating a culture where membership has meaning, contributions have purpose and welfare is sustainable.

Nobody should be forced into OCDN.
Nobody should be forced into any other organisation.
BUT EVERY DRIVER SHOULD BELONG SOMEWHERE.

Because when the apps change their policies, when fares fall, when regulations change, when accidents happen, when drivers grow older and when the steering wheel can no longer provide an income
YOU WILL NEED MORE THAN YOUR INDIVIDUAL EFFORT.

You will need people.
You will need organisation
You will need a system.
And most importantly—

🚖 YOU WILL NEED A PLAN.

The question is no longer:
“Which group should I join?”
The bigger question is:

“WHERE DO I BELONG — AND WHAT AM I BUILDING FOR MY FUTURE?”

Online cab drivers of Kenya, the time to organise for tomorrow is NOW.

UKICHOKA JITOE IS NOT A RETIREMENT PLAN.

THE BLUEPRINT IS FINALLY HERE.
For years, drivers have complained about the same problems. Now, we’re putting a strategy behind the voice.

OCDN 2026–2028 STRATEGIC ROADMAP & FRAMEWORK

This is more than a document. It is a blueprint for organisation, unity, driver welfare, advocacy, accountability and long-term sustainability.
Less talk. More structure. More action.
The real question is no longer “What can OCDN do for drivers?”
The question is: “What are WE willing to build together?”
Read the roadmap. Challenge it. Improve it. Then let’s execute it.

OCDN — ONE NETWORK. ONE VOICE. ONE DIRECTION.

20/08/2026

A cab driver appears to have had his side mirror damaged during a confrontation on the road.
We don't know the full story, so let the facts speak.
But as drivers, we must remember: an attack on one driver should concern us all.
Let's stop standing alone. Support each other, report incidents, share verified information and always choose lawful action.
ONE DRIVER’S PROBLEM TODAY CAN BECOME ANY DRIVER’S PROBLEM TOMORROW.

BOLT, THIS IS THE KIND OF MOVE WE WANT TO SEE!

OCDNKE will always applaud and support any genuine effort that improves the working environment for online cab drivers.

The designated Bolt parking area at SGR Terminal is a good initiative. 👏🏾 It shows that when platforms, facilities and drivers work together, practical solutions are possible.

But here's the bigger question:
WHEN ARE WE GETTING DESIGNATED DRIVER SPACES IN NAIROBI CBD, JKIA, MAJOR MALLS AND OTHER HIGH-TRAFFIC AREAS?

In Nairobi CBD, drivers are constantly caught between passengers demanding convenient pick-ups and authorities enforcing restrictions.

A driver can be harassed by county officers, traffic officers, security personnel or even individuals claiming ownership of particular parking or pick-up areas.

Sometimes the driver is simply trying to pick up or drop off a passenger... and ends up facing fines, penalties, confrontation or unnecessary delays.

Drivers need designated, recognised and safe pick-up/drop-off zones.

And Bolt, while you're making progress on infrastructure, we also need you to look at driver policies.

ACCEPTANCE RATE & DRIVER SCORES NEED A RETHINK.
A driver's acceptance rate or score should not automatically become a weapon for suspension when there may be a legitimate reason behind a rejected or cancelled trip.

Consider this:
A driver arrives and discovers that the passenger has requested transport for more people than the vehicle can legally carry.
-A passenger wants to send a minor alone.
-A passenger is heavily intoxicated or critically unwell.
-A passenger cancels after the driver has already travelled to the pick-up point.
-The passenger's stated pick-up point is inside an inaccessible estate, restricted area or impossible road.
-A driver reaches the location but discovers a genuine safety or logistical problem.

In such situations, why should the driver automatically be punished?

AND HERE'S ANOTHER ONE…
A driver gets a trip that is 7km away, worth KSh 180, potentially requiring a long drive through a rough or inaccessible road.

If the driver declines it because the trip simply doesn't make economic or practical sense, should that automatically damage their acceptance rate?

Drivers aren't machines.
Every rejected or cancelled trip has a story.
Instead of simply asking “Did the driver accept?” or “Did the driver cancel?”, platforms should also ask:

“WHY?”
That simple question could make the system much fairer.
We are not asking platforms to ignore genuine driver misconduct.
We are asking for the system to distinguish between misconduct and legitimate driver decisions.
Use warnings, verification, explanations, appeals and progressive measures where appropriate... rather than making suspension the automatic answer.

OUR MESSAGE IS SIMPLE:
Don't only optimise the algorithm for the passenger. Optimise it for the driver too.
Better pricing matters.
But fair policies, safe operating spaces and driver protection matter just as much.

OCDNKE will continue to applaud what is good, question what is unfair and advocate for practical solutions.

So, bolt... the SGR designated parking area is a good start. 👏🏾
Give drivers legitimate places to pick up and drop off passengers.

Because when drivers have safe, recognised spaces, passengers get better service, traffic flows better, and unnecessary conflict is reduced.
OCDNKE isn't against the platforms.
We are for a better system.
A system where passengers are protected, drivers are respected, and technology works fairly for everyone.

THEY SAID THIS.
BUT WHAT ARE THE FACTS?
OCDNKE has faced allegations, questions and plenty of talk.

We’ve decided to put the facts on the table.
No drama.
No hiding.
No rumours.
Judge for yourself.
TRUE OR FALSE?
LET THE FACTS SPEAK.
