RTEAN, LASU CHAPEL PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO ADOFF POLICE STATION

The leadership of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), LASU Chapel on Thursday, January 29, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Adoff Police Station, CSP Fasilat Bakare, where issues bordering on security and the safety of road users were raised and extensively discussed.

The RTEAN, LASU Chapel delegation was led by Comr. Nurudeen Mudashiru Eniafe, Chairman, RTEAN LASU Chapel and Zonal Chairman, Ojo Zone 21, alongside:

Comr. Akamo Babatunde– Deputy Chairman, LASU Chapel
Comr. Lawal Ganiu Ololade– General Secretary, LASU Chapel
Comr. Maccarthy Olatunji Alade– Treasurer, LASU Chapel
Comr. Bakare Ayomide Quadri– Financial Secretary, LASU Chapel

During the visit, the executives appreciated the DPO and officers of the Adoff Police Station for their continuous efforts in ensuring safety on the roads. It was emphasized that the DPO has always done her best in maintaining security within the axis, particularly as it concerns commuters and students.

The RTEAN, LASU Chapel reaffirmed its commitment to security, not only by virtue of being university alumni, but also as the pioneering and only institutional chapel in the history of commercial transport unions in Nigeria. The Chapel has consistently played a unique role in enhancing road safety through the arrest and handover of suspected criminal drivers involved in “one-chance” activities to the police. It was further acknowledged that the DPO and her officers have also apprehended several suspects in this regard.

Interestingly, the LASU Students Union leaders— Comr. Adebayo Akorede Peter (APK), LASUSU President; Comr. Ibikunle Ayotunde, General Secretary; and Comr. Akano Abdulmalik Kolade, Public Relations Officer—were also met at the station during their own courtesy visit. This further highlighted the shared commitment of all three bodies to the safety of students, staff, and other road users.

It was emphasized that there has always been a cordial and collaborative relationship among the RTEAN LASU Chapel, the Nigeria Police (Adoff Division), and the LASU Students Union, all working together in the interest of public safety.

Members of the public, especially students, are therefore strongly advised to board only buses bearing the official RTEAN, LASU Chapel sticker with a scannable barcode, as this guarantees safety and accountability, particularly when commuting to hostels or homes. Additionally, commuters are urged to board vehicles only at designated parks, especially when coming to school.

Together, we remain committed to ensuring a safer environment for alla

RTEAN LAGOS STATE TO DONATE OVER- N250m FULLY EQUIPPED ICT CENTRE TO LASU.

The Lagos State Chapter of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has announced plans to donate a fully equipped Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, valued at over N250 million, to Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, as part of its commitment to education, youth development and corporate social responsibility.

The disclosure was made on Thursday, January 15, 2026, when a seven-man delegation of the Association including Comr. Surajo Rabe Karoifi (Ass. State Secretary), Comr. Ogundare Shola (state financial secretary), Comr. Akamo Fatai Babatunde (deputy chairman, Lasu chapel), Lawal Ganiu Ololade (Gen. Secretary, Lasu chapel) paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of LASU at her office on the university’s main campus. The delegation was led by the Deputy Operations Officer of RTEAN, Chief AbdulKareem Babatunde, who represented the Lagos State Chairman, Comrade Shamsideen Ajala (popularly known as KAOSARA), alongside the LASU Chapel Chairman of the Association, Comrade Nurudeen Mudashiru Eniafe.

Speaking at the meeting, Chief Babatunde said the proposed ICT Centre was motivated by the consistent and impactful contributions of the LASU Chapel of RTEAN to the university community. He noted that the Association recognises education as a powerful tool for societal transformation and is determined to support students and youths across Lagos State through strategic investments in digital infrastructure.

According to him, the project aligns with RTEAN’s broader vision under the leadership of Comrade Shamsideen Ajala, whose administration has prioritised peace, welfare, security and development since assuming office as Lagos State Chairman. He described Ajala’s leadership as inclusive and progressive, noting that the Association has recorded unprecedented stability, harmony and operational peace across Lagos State and Nigeria by extension.

Under Ajala’s leadership, RTEAN Lagos State has maintained zero tolerance for criminality, with no reported cases of violence, casualties or major security breaches among its members. The administration has also strengthened welfare schemes, with four state officers and Zonal chairmen benefiting from a N7 million welfare scheme every month, while four chapel chairmen across zones — Ojo Surulere, Badagry, Ikorodu and Epe receive a monthly N2 million support scheme. These initiatives, stakeholders noted, have significantly improved members’ welfare and fostered unity across the Association.

The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, commended the ICT initiative, describing it as a strong example of effective “town and gown” collaboration.

According to her representative, the donation transcends LASU alone, as it helps to reshape public perception about RTEAN and demonstrates how organised transport unions can contribute meaningfully to education and national development. She thanked the Association for the gesture, noting that it aligns perfectly with LASU’s vision of digitalisation and innovation, while reaffirming the university’s status as Nigeria’s most digitally advanced and innovative state-owned university.

Professor Enikuomehin further praised former and postgraduate students of LASU who are active within RTEAN, noting that their academic exposure has added intellectual depth and professionalism to the Association’s activities.

The proposed ICT Centre, expected to commence shortly on the main campus, will feature a 250-seater Computer-Based Test (CBT) hall, fully equipped with computers and laptops, administrative offices, reliable power backup systems, high-speed internet connectivity and a holding bay.

The meeting was attended by key university officials, including the Chairman of the Master Plan Committee, Professor Fatai Ogundele; Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs Division, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan; Deputy Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Dr Lateef Sekoni; Deputy Director, Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), Mr Babatunde Ashiyanbi; Head of Physical Planning, Engineer Bajulaye; Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs Division, Mr Gbenga Sadiku; Deputy Registrar, DICT, Mrs Omolara Dosunmu; and other officials from the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

Observers say the proposed ICT Centre further underscores the leadership philosophy of Comrade Shamsideen Ajala, which combines peace-building, welfare-driven governance and strategic investments in education, positioning RTEAN Lagos State as a model for union administration in Nigeria.

The Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), LASU Chapel, expresses deep sadness and concern over reports of a road traffic accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway involving the British-Nigerian two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua.

While we are grateful to God for life and remain hopeful for full recovery for all survivors, we extend our deepest sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident. We pray that Almighty God grants them the strength, comfort, and grace to bear this painful and irreparable loss.

This unfortunate occurrence once again brings to the fore the alarming rate of fatal road accidents caused by articulated trucks, particularly as a result of illegal and indiscriminate parking on highways, often during the day and more dangerously at night. These avoidable acts have continued to claim the lives of innocent sons and daughters of our great nation.

Nigeria has, over the years, lost several promising lives to such preventable road tragedies. A notable example is the late and talented Nigerian rapper Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun, popularly known as “DAGRIN”, whose untimely death was linked to a road traffic incident. His loss remains a painful reminder of how road safety failures cut short great potential.

Closer to home, we also recall with deep sorrow the tragic incident involving a member of staff of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo and others who lost their lives after colliding with a parked LAWMA truck along Iba Bridge, Lagos. These repeated occurrences underscore a systemic problem that demands urgent attention.

RTEAN, LASU Chapel strongly condemns the persistent and illegal parking of trucks on highways, which has become a major cause of fatal accidents across the country. The alarming frequency at which parked trucks—especially during the night—claim innocent lives is unacceptable and calls for urgent and decisive action.

In addition to illegal parking, RTEAN, LASU Chapel frowns at other contributing factors to road accidents, including reckless driving, speeding, driver fatigue, overloading, poor vehicle maintenance, inadequate road lighting, lack of proper road signs, and weak enforcement of traffic regulations. These factors collectively continue to endanger the lives of road users nationwide.

We therefore call on the Federal and State Governments, traffic management authorities, and relevant stakeholders to urgently:

* Enforce strict penalties against illegal truck parking on highways
* Regulate truck movement, especially at night
* Improve road infrastructure, lighting, and signage
* Strengthen driver training and certification
* Intensify public awareness on road safety
* Address reckless driving through consistent law enforcement

We believe that human lives are too precious to be lost to negligence and preventable errors.

Once again, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the departed souls. May Almighty God grant eternal rest to those who have passed, comfort the bereaved, and protect all road users across our nation.

RTEAN, LASU CHAPEL Lists Achievements During END-OF-YEAR PRAYER GATHERING – 18TH DECEMBER, 2025.

The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), LASU Chapel, on Thursday, 18th December, 2025, successfully held its annual End-of-Year Prayer Gathering, an event designed to give thanks for the outgoing year and to seek divine protection, guidance, and prosperity for members, commuters, and the entire Lagos State University (LASU) community in the year ahead.

The prayer gathering was uniquely inclusive and reflective of Nigeria’s rich religious and cultural diversity. It featured three major spiritual observances:

1. Islamic Prayer Session, during which Muslim members and clerics offered prayers for safety on the roads, unity within the association, and continued peace around the LASU axis.

2. Christian Prayer Session, where Christian leaders committed the association and its activities into God’s hands, praying especially against road accidents, insecurity, and economic hardship.

3. Traditional Observation of “Ogun Ona”, a respected Yoruba cultural rite performed to avert vehicular accidents and mechanical failures. Among the Yoruba people, commercial transportation is traditionally regarded as “Iṣẹ Ogun”—a profession closely associated with Ogun, the African deity of iron and metallurgy. This observation symbolized respect for cultural heritage and reinforced the collective commitment to safety, responsibility, and discipline on the road.

The End-of-Year Prayer Gathering also served as a moment of reflection on the remarkable achievements and positive impact of the executive members of RTEAN, LASU Chapel, whose leadership has significantly transformed transportation, safety, and security around the LASU axis since the establishment of the LASU Chapel Motor Park in 2021.

Notably, the LASU Chapel Motor Park stands as the pioneering and only institutional chapel motor park in the history of commercial transport unions in Nigeria. Since its inception, the executive members have implemented reforms that have drastically improved orderliness, affordability, and security compared to what obtained before 2021.

Their key achievements include:

1. Regular regulation of transport fares to ensure affordability for students, staff, and residents, even during periods of economic pressure.

2. Comprehensive collection of drivers’ data, enhancing accountability and traceability within the transport system.

3. Introduction of ID Cards for drivers and coded security stickers affixed to vehicles, serving as critical tools for identification, monitoring, and crime prevention.

4. Nightly deployment of field workers at the U-Turn close to the LASU main gate from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., providing assistance to vehicles while simultaneously deterring criminal activities and maintaining security in the area.

5. Regular security awareness programmes on LASU Radio 95.7 FM, where safety tips, traffic updates, and public enlightenment messages are shared with the wider community.

RTEAN, LASU Chapel has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), especially toward students and vulnerable groups:

1. Annual scholarships awarded to deserving LASU students, with nominations drawn from the Lagos State University Students’ Union, LASU Muslim Students Association of Nigeria (LASU MSAN), LASU Christian Students Association, and differently-abled students, ensuring inclusivity and fairness.

2. Yearly distribution of over 150 free JAMB forms to prospective tertiary institution candidates, easing financial burdens for families and promoting access to education.

3. Empowerment of petty traders and vendors, who were accommodated and assigned trading spaces within the motor park without any form of charge for several years. Although the management of Arcada Arcade** has recently assumed full control of the space, RTEAN, LASU Chapel maintains a cordial and cooperative relationship with Arcada Arcade management and the vendors, ensuring peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.

The LASU Chapel of RTEAN also plays an important role in human capital development by accommodating young professionals and students:

1. NYSC Corps Members received yearly, including:

i. IDOWU OMOLARA ENIOLA– State Code: LA//23A/0176, Call-Up Number: 00000000

ii. ABASS ABIOLA SODIQ– State Code: LA/25C/5226, Call-Up Number: NYSC/LSU/2025/262133

2. SIWES Students received yearly, including:

i. JULIUS SEYIDE MOSES– Student of Transport Management and Operations, Matric No: 201001044

ii. HAMZAT DEBORAH ABISOLA– Student of Business Education, Matric No: 230144050

iii. AKADRI EMMANUEL– Student of Transport Management and Operation, Matric No: 211001040

iv. BALOGUN SARAH AYOMIDE – Student of Office Information Management, Matric No: 220208010006, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH)

The strength of RTEAN, LASU Chapel is further reinforced by the academic depth and professionalism of its executive members:

1. Comr. Nurudeen Mudashiru Eniafe (Chairman)– Master’s degree holder in Transport Planning and Policy, with a Ph.D in view.

2. Comr. Akamo Babatunde Fatai – Master’s degree holder in Transort Planning and Policy.

3. Comr. Lawal Ganiu Ololade (Secretary)– Master’s degree holder in Transport Planning and Policy, with a Ph.D in view.

4. Comr. Olatunji Alade Maccharty (Treasurer)– Master’s degree holder in Transport Planning.

5. Comr. Ayomide Quadri (Financial Secretary)– B.Sc. in Guidance and Counseling.

Worthy of special commendation is the unwavering unity among the executive members of RTEAN, LASU Chapel. Despite several calculated attempts by external and internal forces to infiltrate, destabilize, or divide the leadership, the executives have remained steadfast, united, and focused on their shared vision. These attempts have consistently failed due to their strong bond, transparency, and collective commitment to service.

The 18th December 2025 End-of-Year Prayer Gathering was not only a spiritual exercise but also a celebration of progress, responsibility, unity, and service RTEAN, LASU Chapel has proven itself as a model of how transport unions can positively influence safety, education, community development, and peaceful coexistence within an academic environment. Its achievements remain a benchmark in the history of commercial transportation in Nigeri

ONE CHANCE ROBBERY: RTEAN, LASU Chapel Takes Safety Campaign To Higher Level For LASU Students

The resilient, ever-dynamic and innovative leadership of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), LASU Chapel has once again risen to the new challenge being posed by mindless drivers and tricycle (Kẹkẹ Marwa) operators who, in recent times, have re-emerged with their deceptive methods to defraud commuters and and endanger their lives along LASU-Ojo-Iba road by luring, especially fresh, unsuspecting LASU students into their vehicles, Kẹkẹ and then dispossess them of their valuables such as expensive phones, bags and money.

To curb this nauseating vice, the ever responsive Com. Nurudeen Mudashiru Eniafe-led RTEAN, Lasu chapel has ingeniously devised a new strategy aimed at ensuring an enduring transport management system principally for the protection of commuters dominated by the LASU community on the stretch of the road from LASU Gate through to Ìgandò.

Given the axiom “necessity is the mother of invention”, Eniafe, the RTEAN LASU Chapel Chairman and his team launched a security/safety-focused system on Monday, November 17,2025 wherein every registered commercial driver on the axis is now officially designated with a non-replicable identification code visibly inscribed on their RTEAN-customised Identity Card which, of course, must be hanged on the driver’s neck all the hours at work.

This commuter-friendly innovation allows the students and other passengers boarding the buses on the road axis to identify the drivers by name and code so that the students can report any untoward happening to the RTEAN, Lasu Chapel officials for necessary probings and possible disciplinary action that may be warranted.

Speaking on the innovative development, Com. Nutuden Mudashiru Eniafe told Independent online that his team had to think outside the box having discovered in recent times, that some wicked drivers (not within the pool of responsible ones known to be regular on the LASU Ìgandò road) had started taking an undue advantage of the innocence of the newly admitted students of the Lagos State University (LASU) by luring the green scholars into their buses or Kẹkẹ pretending to be the normal commercial transporters only to move away from the immediate purview of LASU-based RTEAN and pretend that there’s no more fuel in the vehicle or Kẹkẹ and rob the unsuspecting young LASUITES of their phones, bags and cash.

“To curb this menace, we had to think out the current system of codifying every of our registered drivers first, with a displayed identity card; then with a code for each of them readily readable to the students boarding the bus”; By this, you as a passenger can memorise at least, the code number and report to us should you experience anything untoward from any driver and we then know what to do with whoever is involved”, Eniafe tutored with an aura of confidence and assurance.

‌Recall that since the launch of RTEAN, LASU Chapel under the chairmanship of Com Nurudeen Mudashiru Eniafe about three years ago, the knotty traffic gridlock that had always greeted this axis, especially at event seasons in LASU, has become a thing of history with laudable transport sanity restored to the area.

‌It is not surprising, therefore, that the young Eniafe-a Masters degree holder of the LASU School of Transport and Logistics has earned awards via the giant feat achieved by his leadership in converting chaos to peace on the LASU Ìgandò road.
