2-day, 1-night trip to Khao Yai from Bangkok is just a 2.5-3 hour drive, perfect timing to see all the main highlights.
This is a popular itinerary, not too packed, allowing time for photos and relaxation.
Day 1: Bangkok → Khao Yai → Cafe/Farm → Sunset View
7:00 AM Depart Bangkok to avoid traffic.
Recommended: Take the M6 motorway to reach Pak Chong faster.
10:00 AM Arrive at the first stop: Khao Yai National Park.
• Entrance fee: Thai citizens: Adults 40 baht, Children 20 baht, Cars 30 baht. • Must-see spots: Heo Suwat Waterfall, Pha Kluai Mai Waterfall. Short 30-minute hike, shaded trail. Chance to spot monkeys/wild deer • Highlight: Nong Phak Chi Wildlife Observation Tower. Go between 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM for a chance to see wild elephants coming out to eat at the salt lick.
12:30 PM Lunch in the Thanarat Road area. Popular restaurants:
• Krua Khao Yai - Authentic Thai food with mountain views • Midwinter Green - European feel with stunning views, but you might have to wait in line.
2:30 PM Choose 2 out of 3 places based on your style:
1. Primo Piazza - Italian feel, with alpacas and sheep, you can feed the animals, great for photos. 2. Toscana Valley - Stroll through a replica of an Italian town, lots of photo opportunities. Entrance fee to the inner zone is 100 baht. 3. PB Valley Vineyard - Vineyard tour + wine/grape juice tasting. There are tram tours at 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM.
5:30 PM Watch the sunset with views of the wind turbines and Lam Ta Khong Dam. Beautiful during the rainy season - winter.
Evening: Check in to accommodation + find something to eat.
Recommended accommodations: U Khao Yai, Thames Valley, Movenpick, or cute homestays around KM 7-21.
Steak/BBQ: Ralyn Steak House, Dairy Home, Khao Yai BBQ.
Day 2: Watch the morning mist → Cafe → Farm → Return to Bangkok.
Morning 6:00 AM If you can wake up, go to Pha Diew Dai to see the sea of mist. The weather is great during the late rainy season/early winter.
Or if you don't want to go into the national park, go to the viewpoint at KM 30 on Thanarat Road instead.
Late morning 9:00 AM Cafe + breakfast
• Yellow Submarine Coffee Tank - Good coffee, mountain view • The Birder’s Lodge - Forest feel, peaceful • Within Khaoyai - Minimalist, beautiful for photos
10:30 AM Khao Yai Panorama Farm or Bonanza Zoo - Feed the giraffes. Take photos with animals.
12:00 PM Stop to buy souvenirs.
• Khao Yai Floating Market - Open only on Saturdays and Sundays • Pak Chong souvenir shops: Kru Som Song mooncakes, dried fruits, wine from vineyards.
2:00 PM Travel back to Bangkok. Arrive around 5:00-6:00 PM.
