#FactFriday Over 1,000 individual improvements have been made along the nine-mile ART corridor. These include adding landscaping (435 new trees were planted and 4,000 new shrubs and plants were planted), pedestrian level lighting (776 pedestrian level lights were designed to provide industry standard lighting level), curb ramps, removing obstacles in drive pads, and adding audible, vibratory and tactile notifications at cross walks and bus stations for the Albuquerque community. That’s all part of why we were awarded 88.5 out of a possible 100 points to receive Gold on the International Institute for Transportation Technology BRT Standard Scorecard, which topped the previous best U.S. total of 76 given to Cleveland’s Health Line.

12/27/2017

#DidYouKnow The ART project has provided to the Central Avenue Corridor a vast array of ADA improvements that will positively impact people with auditory, visual and physical limitations? Among those improvements, 60 audible and vibratory notifications were added to station and crosswalk crossings, and tactile notifications have been installed at all 19 bus stops.

Electric Buses Are Gradually Replacing Older Fossil Fuel Models

"Central Avenue makes the perfect corridor for such an experiment," said Dayna G. Crawford, deputy director for ABQ RIDE, the city's transit agency. "With 15 percent of the city’s houses and 20 percent of the city’s jobs within a half-mile of the corridor, keeping the air clean should be a fundamental goal."

Albuquerque, N.M., launched its new bus-rapid-transit line with a battery-electric bus, joining a growing movement nationwide to replace diesel or natural gas buses with emissions-free varieties.

Driving with ART

Now that ART construction is substantially complete, we invite everyone to Central to enjoy the new streets, sidewalks, improved parking, state-of-the-art lighting, and the plethora of unique locally-owned businesses all along the corridor. For everyone’s safety, we also remind everyone to avoid driving in the bus lane and obey traffic signals at all times. Explore Central, stay safe, and have a happy holiday season. We look forward to Full Service beginning this winter, once all of the new electric buses have been delivered. For information on how to drive with ART please visit http://www.cabq.gov/transit/art-information/driving-with-art.
