Whether you are new to the Atlanta area or have lived here your whole life, the AOC is a great way to explore the outdoors of Georgia and the Southeast (and sometimes beyond) with a fun, f

Trip leader Kelly Shea recently organized an 8-mile hike for the Atlanta Outdoor Club from the Bartram Trail to Rabun Bald, giving hikers the chance to experience the breathtaking views from Georgia’s second-highest peak without taking on the full traditional route. Kelly's hike packed in plenty of challenge -- about 2,260 feet of elevation gain with some steep climbs -- and the scenic route (and glimpses of rhododendron) made every step worthwhile. Nine members of the Atlanta Outdoor Club had a great time hiking up and down Stone Mountain (twice) and along the Cherokee and Kings Island trails at Stone Mountain. The adventure covered approximately 10.3 miles and included 1,700 feet of elevation gain. (Impressive!) Trip leader Clay Davies noted, "We were concerned that the mountain may be too slick with all the rain but we were pleasantly surprised to find it in good shape. We started with an overcast sky that burned off into a sunny day. Everyone did great and we had a great group of hikers." Learn more about our variety of events at atlantaoutdoorclub.com
