Join us as approximately 0.5 miles of one northbound lane of Tysons Boulevard is temporarily closed for dedicated pedestrian and bicyclist usage.

McLean and Tysons are continuing to evolve into a multimodal hub for Fairfax County residents with the completion of the Tysons East sidewalk project, celebrated today by Providence Supervisor Dalia Palchik and Supervisor John Foust. The sidewalk is located on the south side of Route 123 from Great Falls Street to Anderson Road and provides 2400 linear feet of a varied width sidewalk that connects people in McLean to the McLean Metrorail station. The shared use path provides access for walkers and bicyclists. Other components of the project include curbs and gutters, crosswalks, curb ramps, storm pipes and structures and a retaining wall.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, and a beautiful day in *your* neighborhood, too. May is National Bike Month, why not bike (or walk) to a trail or park near you? #BikeMonth #BikeFairfax #FFXStrong

The weather’s getting warmer, which is leading to beautiful days but some crowded trails on the weekends. Officers all over the county in areas such as Great Falls and McLean have been enforcing parking violations for the past few weeks. Here are some quick fixes to some of the problems we’ve been seeing: Always pay attention to signage wherever you park, and always check your parking job before you leave your car. If an area with street parking is too crowded, why not stay more local and walk or bike to explore your neighborhood?

As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day this week, many of us are working hard to stay healthy by working from home. That means fewer cars on the road and cleaner air. Bike to Work Day 2020, a regional effort in DC, Maryland and Virginia, has been canceled. The Bike Fairfax team at FCDOT is working on possible alternatives, and is looking forward to bringing you bicycling ideas for you and your family during National Bike Month in May. Given our new reality, riding bikes could be just the thing we need to get fresh air, exercise, get to our nearby parks and provide a way to run errands (while maintaining social distancing, of course).

Metro Forward

Metro Forward

ICYMI: Starting today, Metro will further reduce rail and bus hours.

Metrorail will close at 9 p.m. every day and Metrobus service will also end earlier, with the last trips departing at or before 11 p.m.

The decision to end service earlier reflects a significant drop-off in ridership since Metro began asking riders to limit use of the system to “essential trips only” to enhance safety for employees and individuals who must travel during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Anyone using Metro should travel only if absolutely necessary for essential purposes as stipulated under stay-at-home Executive Orders in effect throughout the Metro service area. Essential travel includes first responders, hospital staff, critical government employees, grocery and pharmacy workers, and others who must work during the public health emergency. Unless traveling for an essential purpose, you are urged to stay at home.
