Early start this morning for the first pickup of the day, followed by two more street-plate pickups around the Valley.

Once those were wrapped up, I headed back and got Monday morning’s delivery preloaded so I can start the week ahead of the game and ready to roll.

Sometimes the best way to make Monday easier is to do a little extra on Friday.

An early start moving a mix of trench-shoring equipment around the Valley.

Days like this are a good reminder that no two loads are exactly alike. Different equipment, different jobsites, different loading setups — but the objective stays the same: show up, get it secured, and get it where it needs to go.

A lot of time behind the wheel today, but I can’t complain when the phone keeps ringing and the trailer keeps moving.

Today was one of those days that shows both sides of running a small business.
Nothing was scheduled first thing this morning, so instead of sitting around waiting on the phone, I took advantage of the quiet time to catch up on receipts, expenses and some of the paperwork that comes with keeping TKN Valley Transport running.

Not exactly the part of the business that makes for exciting content — but it has to get done.

Then the phone rang.
The paperwork was put away and the truck and trailer were back doing what they’re supposed to do.

That’s one thing about owning a small business: a slow morning doesn’t necessarily mean a slow day. You work on whatever needs attention until the next opportunity comes in.

Two days of moving shoring equipment around the Valley.

I didn’t get a post up last night. Once the workday was done, date night with my better half took priority — and sometimes that’s exactly where the priority should be.

Back at it today with a delivery of an 8' x 8' x 8' trench box, followed by a pickup of four speed shores.
Between yesterday and today there was plenty of loading, unloading, jobsite maneuvering and time behind the wheel.

Small-business ownership means wearing a lot of hats, but it also means appreciating the time away from work when you can get it.

Not every trailer move is a work call.

Spent part of Sunday helping a friend move some equipment with the Titan and enclosed trailer.

Different setup, different kind of hauling, but still a good way to put the equipment to use and help somebody out.

After a week of trench equipment, jobsite pickups and deliveries, and Saturday’s brake maintenance, this was a nice change of pace.

The workweek ended well with 2 pickups and 1 delivery on Friday.
Saturday looked a little different.

Instead of hauling equipment, the Ram was in the garage for brake maintenance — replacing the rear brakes with PowerStop Extreme severe-duty truck & tow pads. Inspect, clean, and l**e the front.

The loads are the part everyone sees. Maintenance is the part that makes sure the truck is ready to safely handle the next one. And there is more maintenance coming in the near future.

For a truck that earns its living towing and hauling, downtime like this isn’t really downtime — it’s part of running the business.

One of the things I enjoy about this work is the truck and trailer may be the same, but what goes on the deck — and how the job comes together at the site — can change from one stop to the next. Today brought 1 delivery and 2 pickups, with a different setup for each move.

Some days are about one unusual load. Other days are about staying steady and working through the schedule one stop at a time.

Today was the second kind.

Different equipment, different jobsites, different load configurations — and by the time the last one was wrapped up, the day was winding down.

A full day, a lot of miles around the Valley, and six more loads completed safely.

Deliveries get most of the attention, but getting equipment back off the jobsite is just as much a part of the work.Toda...

Deliveries get most of the attention, but getting equipment back off the jobsite is just as much a part of the work.
Today was weighted heavily in that direction — 3 pickups and 1 delivery.

Different sites, different equipment and several different load configurations throughout the day. That means checking the load again each time, adjusting securement for what’s actually on the trailer and heading to the next stop.

Not every day looks the same — even when the truck and trailer do.

Finished the day by preloading tomorrow’s first 2 runs, so we’re ready to roll early.

Back to work after a four-day weekend with the family.

Monday started right back where we left off — 2 deliveries and 1 pickup completed today, moving trench safety equipment where it needed to go across the Valley.

A little time away is always good, but it’s also good to get the truck and trailer back to work.
