👤 Employee Spotlight: Bill Lucas 👤
Bill has been with us for nearly two years now and has become an important part of the team. We’re grateful for the consistency, experience, and perspective he brings every day. He’s got a unique story and path that led him here—and we wanted to share it in his own words:
"My name is Bill Lucas, and I live in a small town in Illinois. Looking back over my life, I can see how each chapter—whether it made sense at the time or not—played a part in getting me where I am today.
Right after high school, I joined the Army and spent four years serving my country as a combat telecommunications center operator. Two of those years were overseas in Europe, and the other two were stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. That experience helped shape my discipline, attention to detail, and sense of responsibility, but when I got out, I wasn’t completely sure what direction my life should take.
I went on to study automotive technology and earned both a certificate and a two-year associate degree. Even then, I still felt unsettled, like I hadn’t quite found my place yet. I took a year off and traveled to Australia on a mission trip, where I served as a mechanic. That experience opened my eyes and gave me a deeper appreciation for serving others.
After returning to California, I spent several years involved in short-term mission work. Eventually, my path led me to Kentucky, where I became part of a live-in facility that helped people overcome life-controlling issues. That place changed my life. What started as a season of personal growth turned into 15 years of service, where I worked as a counselor, mechanic, and in maintenance. It was there that I learned the value of consistency, accountability, and walking alongside others through difficult times.
In 2005, I married my wife, Judy, and together we began a new chapter. We later moved to Wisconsin, where I worked in an automotive shop for a while. Then during the COVID season, an unexpected opportunity came my way—I was able to get my CDL and start a new career in truck driving in 2020.
I spent my first year over the road, learning the lifestyle and the responsibility that comes with it. After that, I transitioned into local driving in Wisconsin for the next three years. Then, because of medical needs in our family, we moved to Illinois to be closer to my in-laws.
That move turned out to be a blessing in more ways than one. I was given the opportunity to begin hauling fuel—something I had wanted to do from the very beginning of my driving career. Today, I can honestly say I’m working my dream job.
Outside of work, I enjoy being outdoors—riding motorcycles, biking, playing softball, and spending time reading. My wife Judy enjoys puzzles, reading, bicycling and we both value the simple things in life.
When I look back, I see that not every step made sense at the time. There were seasons of uncertainty, change, and growth. But each one had a purpose. From the military to missions, from counseling to trucking, every part of the journey helped shape who I am today.
And now, I’m grateful—not just for where I’ve ended up, but for the path it took to get here."
Bill, we’re glad you’re here and appreciate everything you bring to the team. 👏
