Today is another special day for LuGreg. Today is a day that very few in life ever get to claim. 30 years of commitment in anything today is rare and today we celebrate just that, 30 years of commitment, sacrifice, and impact.
Today, we were blessed to celebrate Mr. David Yeager. On October 3rd, 1996, David joined our team at the Elk City Yard. At that time, LuGreg had just 26 team members company-wide, and David became the fourth member of our Elk City team. I think it is safe to say that neither David nor LuGreg could have imagined all that the next 30 years would hold. Over those years, David has served in numerous capacities. From being one of the best tank truck operators we have had, to serving as a truck pusher, and eventually helping establish our Thomas Yard in 2013 as Yard Manager. Then semi retiring from yard manager in 2022, and assuming the role of “SENIOR” truck driver at Thomas as he currently sits today! Through every role, David has demonstrated the same qualities that have earned him the respect of his fellow team members, customers, and leadership. I also note that during that whole time he made us laugh, kept us on our toes, and did things in David fashion along the entire way!
Today, I want to highlight just a few of those qualities today.
First is David's dependability and commitment to the team. Over the years, one of the most consistent things said about David is that he can be counted on through thick and thin. When things get difficult, when challenges arise, or when someone needs a helping hand, David has always been willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. He has never been one to put himself above the team, and oftentimes has put the needs of others ahead of his own. That kind of selflessness and commitment is something we should all strive to demonstrate.
Second is his character and authenticity. Five years ago, when we celebrated David's 25th anniversary, we referred to him as a true LuGreg "OG." Someone who is genuine, authentic, a little old school, and committed to a set of standards regardless of the circumstances around them. Well, five years later, I don't think that description has changed one bit! David is still David. He is hardworking, trustworthy, caring, and yes, maybe even a little stubborn at times. But that stubbornness has also been a strength. It reflects a man who believes in doing things the right way and isn't easily moved from those convictions.
Lastly, David's impact on the people around him. Over 30 years, David has done far more than haul loads, manage trucks, or oversee a yard. He has helped build relationships, develop team members, serve customers, made us laugh, and helped shape the culture of this company. His quiet leadership, willingness to help others, and genuine concern for people have left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to work alongside him.
David, as we celebrate this incredible milestone, it is also a little bittersweet knowing that you are preparing to retire this December. After 30 years of early mornings, long days, difficult challenges, and countless sacrifices, you have certainly earned the opportunity to enjoy this next chapter of life. But I hope you also recognize that what you leave behind is much greater than a position or a job title. You leave behind a legacy of faithfulness, integrity, hard work, and service to others. Those are things that cannot be measured by the number of loads hauled or years worked, but rather by the lives you have impacted along the way.
David, thank you for your loyalty to LuGreg, your commitment to our team, and the example you have set over these past 30 years. Thank you for being a man who has consistently lived out our values rather than simply talking about them. And most importantly, thank you for the way you have honored our Lord through your work and your care for others. We are grateful that God brought you to LuGreg 30 years ago, and we are certainly better because of it.
Congratulations on 30 outstanding years, David!
