Big Rig Nation

Big Rig Nation Big Rig Nation is an independent trucking media outlet.

We document and analyze trucking pay structures using real contracts, settlements, and receipts—so drivers can see how systems actually operate, not how they’re marketed.

Last night, 32 drivers from 18 states came together.

Some had been with the organization for years. Some for a shorter period. But all of them were professional drivers with real-world experience behind the wheel.

They shared their experiences, asked questions, and learned what steps may be available moving forward.

The question isn't whether these drivers know trucking.

The question is why so many experienced drivers are raising the same concerns and asking the same questions.

Different drivers. Different trucks. Different time periods.

Yet many of them are describing remarkably similar experiences.

Drivers, we're building something special in America—and we're just getting started.

We just crossed the 40K mark on Facebook!

Massive thank you to the best community on the road. Whether you're behind the wheel right now or taking a break, know that we’re in your corner.

We’re here to keep the industry honest and the drivers informed. Thanks for being part of the nation! 👊

For all of you out here doing lease purchases — this is what the real rates look like right now on chicken freight.

This load right here: 40,000 pounds of palletized chicken, 610 loaded miles, paying $2,500 to the driver. That works out to over $3.47 a mile.

Now I want you to think about that. Because there are lease-purchase drivers out here being told they are making $1.55 to $1.85 a mile on the same freight, out of the same facilities, running the same miles.

Owner-operators have access to rate data. We can see what loads actually pay. The question you need to ask yourself before you sign any lease-purchase agreement is — does your carrier know what this freight pays?

And if they do, where is the rest of your money going?

Do your research before you sign anything. The information is out there. You just have to know where to look.

American truck drivers are feeling the pressure.

More surveillance.
More compliance.
More control.
Less independence.

At some point, people stop asking if the industry is changing…
and start asking who it’s changing for.

Silence isn’t helping anybody anymore.

Why does trucking feel more controlled than ever before?

Cameras.
Tracking.
Compliance systems.
Lawsuits.
Regulations.

Some people blame the government.
Others blame corporate greed.

But every time new pressure hits this industry… giant corporations get bigger while independent drivers get pushed out.

Because mega-carriers can absorb:
legal costs,
compliance departments,
technology,
and insurance increases.

Small carriers can’t.

And when expensive legal battles become part of the system… many independent drivers break financially before the truth ever comes out.

But evidence has a funny way of surviving longer than intimidation does.

So what do YOU think this really is?

Government overreach?
Corporate greed?
Or both?

Robert Dennis Murphy asked a question on this page today that stopped me dead in my tracks. I put the phone down and went and wrote about it.
What is your definition of a professional truck driver?
Before we can debate speed limiters, automation, or any of it — we have to answer that question first. Robert nailed it. Scott Quinn added to it. And I had something to say about it too.

It stopped me dead in my tracks. Right here on Memorial Day. Robert Dennis Murphy asked a question on our page that the trucking industry has been afraid to answer for twenty years. Trust builds professionals. Micromanagement builds resentment.
