Andrew Lane Wines Andrew Lane Wines Yet Andrew Lane remained an underground project until David's son Andrew turned the family winery into a commercial venture in 2002.

The father-and-sons operation of Andrew Lane Winery dates back to the late 1970s, when David Dickson founded the business and named it after his two sons. During the early years, David won a series of awards at the Napa Valley Home Winemaker's Classic and received Best of Show at the prestigious Napa Town & Country Fair in 1983. The relationships forged during the previous 30 years helped give the

winery access to some of the best vineyards in Napa, and right out of the gate the Andrew Lane upstart had some of the best Cabs in Napa.

Happy New Year. We lost our winery in the Glass Fire đŸ”„ and many storied bottles, library wines and the 2018 vintage. But the silver (lining) resurgence may be the crush pad of our dreams. As for COVID?! we advise pulling a few corks and imagining the animals getting the planet back for another 8 months. Cheers to you! And thank you all for the support.

GUS I AM by Drew Dickson

ïżŒïżŒYOU COULD SAY HE WAS BORN UNDER A LUCKY STAR, but he wasn’t... he was born under a porch in Paradise, California. We discovered him, lost and malnourished, during the 4th of July weekend. What were we going to name this new arrival? Sure, he was lucky, but we didn't want to name him that, so we decided to go with plain old ‘Gus’.
One advantage of having such a brief, no-nonsense moniker is that the possibilities for nicknames are endless. And over the years, we have developed one for every season, occasion and episode of Gus’s life.
Gus: aka ‘Haggus’, ‘Gustoph Chompski’, ‘Gooseberry’, ‘Gussy-Up’, ‘The Gusser’, ‘Out-of- Gus’, ‘Royal Gusman’, ‘The Gusinator’, ‘Goose’ and ‘Bear’. The last one stuck well beyond his puppy years because my wife Deanna loves to ride me for believing Labradors are somehow related to bears. A theory I have, based on the shape of their nose.
The handle ‘Gooseberry’ arrived during one of our blending sessions; a penchant for outdoor sports involving a gaggle of wintering snow geese begot the name ‘Goose’; and he was titled ‘Gussy-Up’ because he makes us look good.
The ‘Gusser’ was coined once we realized the young lad was responsible for a 20% increase in wine sales upon his move to the winery – “Rack one up for the Gusser!” But it wasn’t long before he was banished to the vineyard for soiling the tasting room carpet. That carpet was deemed to have been ‘Gusinatored!’
While he played well with all the gentleman farmers, his stoic, vineyard trot looked more like a prance as he refused to touch wet grass with his paws. Hence the moniker, ‘The Royal Goose Man’.
At the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter what you call him – Gus doesn’t mind. He will be what he will be – living life with Gusto!
