True story! A young Tasmanian devil named Mary has gone missing from her enclosure at Paradise Country on the Gold Coast, prompting the wildlife park to temporarily close while an extensive search continues.
Mary was one of two recently arrived devils and was being housed in a secure quarantine habitat when staff discovered she was missing during a routine check.
Wildlife teams have searched the habitat and surrounding areas, reviewed security footage, and even deployed thermal imaging drones, but so far Mary has not been found.
The park says there is no evidence of damage or structural issues that would explain how she disappeared. Biosecurity Queensland has been notified due to the species' endangered status.
Tasmanian devils are Australia's largest carnivorous marsupial. Staff say incidents like this are extremely rare and that Mary's welfare remains their highest priority.
Hopefully Mary turns up safe and sound soon.
