We’re taking another important step to improve taxi service across the North West.

Emu Bay Taxis is preparing to begin an upcoming service expansion trial focused on strengthening coverage in Somerset and Wynyard, with more cars dedicated to the area.

This means Somerset can expect more focused service, while Wynyard continues to be supported. It will also help strengthen the Burnie fleet by keeping more cars local and available where they are needed most.

This is part of our ongoing work to improve reliability, reduce wait times, and build a stronger service across the region.

We will announce the confirmed start date soon so Somerset customers know when to expect the dedicated service increase.

Thank you for continuing to support local taxi services across the North West.

📹 Did You Know?

All of our taxis are fitted with approved security camera systems.

These cameras are there to help protect both drivers and passengers and play an important role in maintaining a safe transport environment.

The footage can be accessed when required and is regularly requested by Tasmania Police to assist with investigations involving:

✔️ Traffic incidents
✔️ Criminal offences
✔️ Public safety matters
✔️ Passenger and driver complaints

The presence of security cameras helps provide accountability, improve safety and ensure incidents can be reviewed accurately if required.

A safer taxi service benefits everyone.

📊 Tracking Our Performance

We're now tracking our operational performance closer than ever before to ensure we clearly understand where we're performing well and where we need to improve.

Based on our recent data, average pickup times are currently:

🚖 Burnie – 8.1 minutes
🚖 Wynyard – 7.6 minutes
🚖 Somerset – 12.9 minutes

While we're pleased with these averages, we know there will always be occasions where demand spikes, vehicles are tied up on longer trips, or unexpected events cause delays.

It's also important to note that some periods naturally sit above the average. In Burnie, our busiest period is generally between **2am and 4am on Friday and Saturday nights**, when demand can significantly exceed normal levels and wait times may increase.

Overall, Burnie is performing strongly, and we've reached a point where further improvements become increasingly difficult. Occasional service blowouts are simply part of operating any transport service.

Our next focus will be on improving coverage and response times in the Wynyard and Somerset areas, particularly on weekends where wait times can still be higher than we'd like.

We're committed to continually improving and using real data to guide our decisions and investments.

Thank you to our drivers and customers for helping us continue improving local transport across the region.

🌙 Reminder about upfront payment requests

As part of protecting our drivers and reducing fare evasion, passengers may occasionally be asked for payment upfront on:
• Longer fares
• Late night trips
• Higher-risk bookings

This process helps:
✔️ Reduce fare evasion
✔️ Protect driver income
✔️ Keep vehicles available for genuine customers

Most passengers understand and appreciate why these measures are in place.

Our goal is simple, keeping the service fair, sustainable and reliable for everyone.

The inspection process also included positive feedback on the condition and presentation of our fleet.

A big credit goes to:
✔️ Our drivers for taking pride in their vehicles
✔️ Terrylands for helping maintain the fleet
✔️ Our regular cleaner for keeping the cars presented to a high standard

Keeping our vehicles safe, clean and roadworthy is a major part of delivering reliable transport for the community.

Thanks to everyone involved in helping maintain the standard.

📲 When you book a taxi, a driver commits their time and vehicle to that booking.

Last-minute cancellations and no-shows don’t just affect the driver, they also delay genuine customers waiting for transport. We ask everyone to please book responsibly, be ready when your taxi arrives, and respect the service so we can continue improving availability for the whole community.
