Road Safety and Responsibility Matter

Over recent months, I have noticed an increase in both the amount and frequency of debris on highways and arterial roads between Perth and Margaret River - including stones and other items that appear to have come loose from trailers or boats.

Equally concerning is the number of vehicles failing to maintain lane discipline. This includes consistent wandering over the edge line or onto the shoulder, and on country roads, travelling on or across double unbroken centre lines. These are not momentary lapses, but repeated deviations that significantly increase risk.

Whether this reflects fatigue, inattention, or poorly secured loads, the risk to others is real.

This is not simply about vehicle damage. It is about safety and responsibility.

Every driver has a responsibility - to secure loads properly, to maintain lane discipline, and to recognise that repeated inattention can place others at serious risk. The consequences extend well beyond one vehicle. People’s lives, and their livelihoods, depend on all of us taking care.
