Happy Father's Day to all the amazing "Dads" out there!
Today is for the wonderful, loving, and supportive dads. The step-dads and father figures. The single dads, the foster dads, the new dads, and the soon-to-be dads. The dads who are doing the best they can, and those who don't fit the traditional mold. The dads who have lost a child, and anyone who's had to face the challenges of infertility. The people who stand in as dads, and the people who have been positively changed by a father's love. And of course, a huge shout-out to all the fur baby daddies out there – your love and care for your four-legged (or feathered, or scaled!) family members is truly special.
And for those of you who find today difficult, I see you, I am you.
This is the first year my children and I are experiencing this day without a father. For very different reasons, we both have to navigate a world where they are no longer here either by choice or fate. I know that loss is a weight many of you carry, and it's a profound kind of grief that can feel isolating.
I also want to give a massive thank you to all the single mums who are pulling double duty, stepping up as both mum and dad, completely alone. Your strength and dedication are truly inspiring being the role of both comes with its hard times, yet so much love.
So to all of you who have lost a father or a father figure, or who have a difficult relationship with their dad, or simply can't be with them today, my heart is with you. To anyone feeling pressured by the expectations of fatherhood, or who just needs a little extra love, I'm thinking of you.
May your day be filled with peace, love, and a quiet sense of honor for the people and beings who have shaped our lives.
