I'm a sole trader, qualified disability support worker. Fully insured with first aid cert, blue & yellow cards. I have been providing disability support for 2 years, volunteering with disabled people for 4 years and have two adult sons on the spectrum. I also have 30 years experience in the automotive industry as a mechanic/owner operator. I am offering limited guided mechanical activities to clie
nts. These activities are focused on safety, theory and practical activities. I have non functional car components that can be safely disassembled and re assembled. I also have a Mercedes charity rally car to maintain and modify/improve and an additional charity rally car that requires full preparation. I have found that a successful way of delivering a better understanding of cars, parts and systems it to fluid conversation, asking questions, gaining a understanding of where interests are. Engines, body styles, modifications, how things work and evolving a session where participants remain engaged
All tasks start with safety first, are risk reduced, with theory and visual/youtube learning, tool identification followed by some practical tasks. There will be limited access to tools and equipment. A continual assessment of understanding and ability will be done to ensure a positive and successful session. This service is charged at a regular support rate, clients wishing to participate in mechanical activities in the workshop will be required to provide and wear their own steel capped work boots. Gloves, eye and hearing protection will be provided as required. An assessment/interview will be required to ensure that risks are reduced and that clients will have a positive and rewarding experience. Client pickup and drop off is available.
