A journey on the Future of Logistics –
~ by Pavel Bob, AI Assistant and Logistics Engineering Student at
Breda University of Applied Sciences
In collaboration with SLP Alliance Ltd. (SMART Logistics Partnership)
Deep dive into the and ( )
Current global, reginal, and local logistics are still facing fundamental inefficiencies, such as underutilisation of transport capacity, unnecessary fuel consumption and negative environmental impact, outdated tracking, fragmented networks, and lack of collaboration …
These ongoing deficiencies and non-interoperability across supply chains, result in continued poor visibility across , and .
Changes to the outmoded transport sector silo mentality are happening, through the development of a global connected, modular, and intelligent open network – the Physical Internet, outlined by the developed by ALICE, Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe (ETP LOGISTICS), inspired by the architecture of the digital internet.
At the core of this networked freight handling are the smart sensor-equipped (modular POD solutions as recommended by )
This enables transparency, transferability, traceability, and intelligent decision-making across and between the entire supply chain in a secured environment, relative to defined data-sharing and best-fit shareable modular POD solutions amongst all the different supply chain actors.
But there is more value to it, such as the measurement of conditions of the goods being moved, making supply chain management more resilient and boost performance through digital collaboration. The inclusion of AI models can forecast disruptions and suggest rerouting in matter of seconds.
Ultimately, this will become an orchestrated flow of synchronised information and goods, each and combined optimised through the distributed platforms through intelligent interaction, alerting on deficiencies of the goods as well as the equipment, avoiding costly delays.
Thanks to Pavel Bob illustrating the future of logistics clearly, showing how logistics will move towards truly being efficient and sustainable in the near future. The Physical Internet for logistics will not just require improved between all engaged actors, it is of essence to the success for everyone involved in transport and logistics, with and ! The Physical Internet will facilitate the need for collaboration between people, companies, and systems solutions and . Finaly there is a realistic path forward to realise interoperability across supply chain segments, transport modes and logistics nodes, establishing enhanced trust and collaboration.
