We always knew we had some of the best drivers in Calgary. Last night, the city recognized one of them in a very special way.

At the 63rd White Hat Awards ceremony with Tourism Calgary, our own Hardeep Toor was honoured with the Best Driver award.

Many Calgarians already knew his story.

On a cold, blustery December night, a woman in severe distress and in active labour was driven to the hospital in Hardeep’s cab. Before they could make it to emergency, a baby was born in the backseat.

In a moment that could have turned chaotic, Hardeep stayed calm, compassionate and focused on getting his passengers the help they needed.

That story spread across the world, with more than 4 million people reading about the incredible night that turned one Checker Cab into a delivery room.

Hardeep, your calmness, kindness and professionalism made Calgary proud. All of us at Checker Cabs are proud to call you part of our family.

Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness create the biggest moments. ❤️

Recently, our Lost and Found Department came across a wallet that had been unclaimed for quite some time. Our Lost and Found Coordinator noticed there was over $500 cash and a $50 Tim Hortons gift card tucked inside and the search began. After some impressive detective work, including finding a Google post from more than 10 years ago, they were able to connect with the customer’s sister through Messenger and reunite him with his money.

Yesterday, he stopped by with beautiful flowers and a gift card to say thank you. Such a thoughtful gesture and so appreciated.

A huge thank you also goes to our drivers who take the time to turn items in. Without them, we would never have the chance to reconnect customers with their belongings.

Tomorrow night, we are incredibly proud to cheer on one of our very own, Hardeep, who is a finalist for Best Driver at the White Hat Awards.

The White Hat Awards recognize the extraordinary people in Calgary’s tourism and hospitality industry who go above and beyond to create unforgettable experiences through compassion, professionalism, and genuine care. Every year, hundreds of nominations are submitted and interviews are conducted to recognize the individuals who truly represent the spirit of our city. Being selected as a finalist is an incredible honour and Hardeep is so deserving of this recognition.

Many of you will remember Hardeep as the Checker driver who, on a freezing cold and blustery Calgary night, helped a woman safely get to the hospital while she was in labour. Before they even arrived, a beautiful baby girl was born right there in the cab.

That story touched hearts around the world, receiving over 4 million views and bringing awareness to the kindness, compassion and humanity Calgarians are known for. But to us, it also reflected something we see every day: our drivers showing up for people when they need them most.

Hardeep, we are so proud of you and honoured to see you recognized for the incredible person and driver you are. Good luck tomorrow night. All of Checker is cheering you on. ❤️🚖

Mother’s Day is this weekend and trust us, the brunch crowds are just ramping up. We’re already getting ready for a full weekend of picking up moms across Calgary and getting them to every buffet table in YYC without anyone fighting for parking or circling the car park for 15 minutes. Make the day easy on yourself, let mom relax and leave the driving to Checker while everybody focuses on pancakes, coffee and pretending one mimosa still counts as brunch.

While beer lovers were busy enjoying the Alberta Beer Festival, the Checker Cabs crew was busy doing what we do best, keeping Calgary moving safely all weekend long. Sure, we took a moment to enjoy the sights and atmosphere, but over the two day festival we picked up 100s of guests and made sure they got home safe. Somebody had to be the responsible ones around here😉😉😉🚕🚖🚕🚖🚖🚕🚕.
