Premier Danielle Smith and Tourism and Sport Minister Andrew Boitchenko recently announced $15 million in provincial government funding for the World Cup of Hockey 2028 in Alberta.

Ten World Cup of Hockey 2028 games will be hosted in Alberta, shared between Edmonton and Calgary, in February 2028. Calgary will host six round-robin games and one elimination game, while Edmonton will host 2 semi-finals and the championship game.

Hosting the tournament is expected to generate an estimated $375 million in economic impact, support over 42,000 jobs, and fill nearly 172,000 hotel rooms - providing a significant boost to Alberta’s tourism sector and local economies.
