Most people who have ridden with me know that it is not uncommon for Taras to tag along. This summer, he bought a business suit for the role and without being asked, began to open doors for the customers; assist seniors with unloading grocery bags; wave at the other shuttle drivers in passing. At some point, he even took calls and helped organize routes. Tonight, I was openly threatened by a Skyways driver again. This time, he would have killed my child on impact.

Portage is not what it was. I have tried my best to bring back some sort of hope for the people upon the encroaching horizon of melancholy and defeat. We should have transit and transportation operations that are active, viable and safe for everyone… including the drivers. 🧿🙏🏼♥️ This is why we will not continue.

While the is not the only non-profit organization that helps rise above barriers with education systems, transportation opportunities and socialization/support programs, I wanted to use my final days to give back to them for the genuine support and kindness that they have always extended to me and for the difference that they have made for some of our local families. ♥️ Thank you for believing in me from Day One.

Tomorrow marks December 1st.

I have one final ask for the citizens of Portage la Prairie, who actually need access to more resources and essential operations than a plethora of fast-food/consumables and shuttle services. ♥️🙏🏼

While I’m at it… I also just saw the Business Awards post from the city. I think it’s cute that they have time for planning soirées when real time issues are continuing to go unresolved in our community. I do not believe for a second that illegal drugs are the single most overwhelming problem that we have. They are a band-aid fix for several issues like trauma, racism, social isolation/disassociation, depression, mental health disorders and anxiety that are increasingly rampant in our community to-day. We have both parents and single people alike who are struggling to find employment because they don’t know the right people. We have new mothers hiding at home in fear of making new connections because of traumas, socioeconomic status and stigma. We have exhausted parents with no social network and a whole generation of children without a safe place to play. Where can one relax, recharge, sing, play, paint, scream, be heard, supported or simply acknowledged in this place of possibilities? Driving cab/shuttle/taxi, you see a lot of human vulnerabilities, struggles and triumphs firsthand. We do not need “more” enforcement and security officials. We are seriously lacking in resources that bring our community together while providing safe leisure and entertainment opportunities for citizens of all ages and additional ways to support each other. We have now all felt the crushing effects of government lockdowns, enforced social isolation, scarcity and fear during the pandemic, followed by the increased cost of daily life, such as transportation, food, utilities and rent. It is a devastating feeling that robs you of any sense of security: what then do you have to give to your self/your spouse/your children? How do you begin to source out healthy ways to cope, recover and rise again?

We need systems in place that can provide betterment resources and access to those who in the community who are in need. We must make them known and also support them to help others in a weakened position to stand again. As a woman, I have walked with you; I have starved with you; I have cried with you. I have laughed with you; listened to you; felt what it was that you did not say. This is why I have chosen to take a final stand in supporting the people in my community as I close the cab. I have worked the past two years with a certain organization and by helping to voluntarily fundraise for them, I want everyone to know and be connected to the knowledge that there are some local organizations and resources that can help assist individuals and families through these extremely trying times. It is simply because you exist, that you matter. ♥️

I would also like to THANK YOU for all of YOUR support. Running Peggy’s has not been the easiest career choice and I do appreciate all of the long shifts; ups and downs; lessons and unpaid accounts; laughter, joy and tears; right down to those sharp left turns when someone isn’t sure about the address but it’s over there and now we’ve completely missed it.😂😂♥️

I will always protect and fight for the people.

Please stay tuned for fundraising details and other information on opportunities to heal, help and assist our community members. ♥️🙏🏼

We are here today because of her.

The woman who carried us in her sacred place until it was our time to arrive on this Earth. 🙏🏼

We are raised by mothers of all kinds; step-mothers, adoptive mothers, mother-in-laws, aunties, grandmothers, nanas, kookums, ammi, dadi-ma ji.✨

Each one with a powerful story of her own.

Today, we honour and celebrate the women in both our families and communities that influenced our individual paths. ♥️

Happy Mother’s Day to you. 🙏🏼♥️

UPDATE:

April showers bring May flowers 🌸🌼
And I hope you like the rain. 😍

This stop has given me necessary time to rest,
In order to serve everyone again. 🙏🏼

I thank you for your patience;
Everyone is dear. ♥️

The problem is that my car is still not fixed,
And now for my livelihood I fear! 😱

I ask for nothing but a bit more time,
To scurry and to source. 🙈

It’s been a year and I’m still here -
Therefore one must stay the course! ✨

***I WILL UPDATE EVERYONE WITH GOOD NEWS AND A RETURN, HOPEFULLY SOONER THAN LATER!***

Good morning, everyone!

Reminder that today is the solar eclipse! 😍 All students will be kept indoors for recess and viewing should only happen with specialized glasses. 🤩✨

The car is also down for repairs following the FRC’s Mom Prom event this weekend. (Please, ladies, I encourage you to share your experience and photos on this post below to showcase what kind of event it may be for other moms.) ♥️ The car may be back up by Wednesday, April 10th and I will let everyone know.

In addition: I will only be able to run April 17th and 18th next week, following an MPI claim that may be related to this breakdown and two Winnipeg runs.

—————————————————————————-

During these times of closure, I will also be taking the time to decide if I will continue to run alone or cease operations all together. I have tried to create an environment of safety and solidarity for both the general public and other companies, although the pink target on my back has put me in some interesting circumstances over this past year.

Thank you for your support, patience and understanding at this time. ♥️🙏🏼 I couldn’t have made my first official year a success without the love of a community around me. ✨

Kitty’s Kindness, Part 2.

It’s not uncommon to be given a tip or the odd thoughtful token. It’s far more common to be someone’s ear or shoulder during the drive; oftentimes our regulars become familiar to us like extended family members. This letter, following the squeals of delight over her handiwork, brought me to tears. A single cab fare, tucked inside with a message that hit so much harder than our tires on the pavement. I cannot service everyone; I can only do my best at what I can do and sometimes even that feels like an unattainable goal. ♥️ Thank you so much, Kitty. 🙏🏼
