My name is Gabe, I’m 23 years old, and I’m a first-generation pilot. I graduated from high school in Germany and, shortly after, packed two bags and moved to Canada in 2023 to pursue aviation. I started my flight training in Grande Prairie, Alberta, where I also worked as a ramp agent. That experience gave me the opportunity to meet people throughout the industry, build connections, and get my foot in the door of aviation.
I remember walking through an airport as a kid and seeing the pilots in their uniforms. I remember thinking to myself, “Wow, I want to be that one day.” That moment stuck with me, and over time that curiosity turned into a passion for aviation and eventually a career.
My first flying job was in aerial surveillance and forest fire fighting, where I got my start building real-world flying experience. From there, I had the opportunity to fly King Airs on IFR charters in the High Arctic, which really helped me develop my skills and gain valuable experience in more complex operations.
I was drawn to Aspen Air because of the variety of flying, the northern operations, and the opportunity to take on more responsibility as a Captain. Having experience in command, I wanted to continue developing my decision-making and leadership skills while flying executive charters and being part of a great team.
There’s a lot of preparation that happens behind the scenes. From weather and fuel planning to aircraft performance, routing and constantly monitoring conditions, every detail matters. The goal is to make all of that work invisible to the passenger so they can simply enjoy the flight.
