What if your apprenticeship didn’t just teach you something but actually inspired you? Sounds too good to be true? Merle says: Yes, it exists. 🙌

Merle is a second-year apprentice from Germany becoming a Freight Forwarding Specialist. She knew from before finishing school that she wanted to work in logistics. A friend then recommended Kuehne+Nagel to her, and that's where her journey began.

“I just find it really fascinating to see where things are shipped to and where the products we consume come from.” From Germany out into the world. That’s not only what Kuehne+Nagel transports every day, but also a mindset Merle carries within her. And it drives her forward. Alongside her apprenticeship, she’s currently completing an additional training to become a European Logistics Specialist. As part of that, she spent four weeks in Rotterdam last year – an experience that broadened her horizons even further.

Because she’s so passionate about the world of logistics, Merle took part in the BEST AZUBI knowledge competition, hosted by Verkehrsrundschau. Out of nearly 1,100 participants, she took third place. That’s amazing!

Having already won this award, Merle is now looking forward to her next big adventure: a stay in Helsinki through our Crossing Borders exchange programme. 😍

Imagine an that broadens your horizons. This is exactly what happened to Marike. 🙂

Marike kicked off her career at Kuehne+Nagel Germany in Hamburg in 2023 as an apprentice in Freight Forwarding. Early on, she stepped into the world of global logistics through our Crossing Borders programme, spending five weeks in Wrocław. This experience sparked her ambition to take her career to the next (international) level.

While she was still exploring her options, a spontaneous call with a former apprentice who was packing to move to Shanghai literally changed everything. Shortly after the call, she received a bold opportunity: Panama.

LCL Pricing? Completely new territory. Time to decide? Almost none. However, this challenge turned into a valuable lesson: the biggest happens exactly where the comfort zone ends.
Since February 2026 Marike lives and works in Panama. She is part of the Sea Logistics LCL Pricing Team for Central America, working across different markets, cultures and time zones, and she was welcomed by a team that instantly made her feel at home.

At Kuehne+Nagel, we love to imagine more. Just as Lennard. At just 24, he is driving LCL Supplier Management across China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. He works closely with regional partners and negotiates procurement rates to keep our LCL product strong.

His journey at Kuehne+Nagel started in 2021 with a dual Bachelor’s degree and an in Freight Forwarding in Hamburg, Germany. Since then, he has gained global experience — from a Contract Logistics internship in Athens to working in the Tender and Procurement department in our Corporate LCL Team in Hamburg, and a three-month assignment with our LCL colleagues in Bangkok and Laem Chabang.

These days, Lennard lives and works in Shanghai. A city he chose to deepen his international expertise and experience at one of the world’s most dynamic hubs.

Highlights so far? Growing his global network in the Corporate LCL Team, his assignment in Thailand and moving to China and feeling welcomed by an amazing team.
