How much is 10 Cubic Metres? Quite a lot actually….
We recently did a move that was all boxes and filled a 10 cubic metre van. It even surprised us how much you can fit in when it’s laid out in one place! Little car for reference😂

There are other removal companies, there are people with vans, if you are moving home and value your belongings, you don’t have to use us, but you should use a professional you can trust.

We are a British owned business registered and based on the Barcelona/Tarragona border in Spain. Which means any stop checks by the police won’t result in fines, no detaining our vans & your belongings and no visits from the Spanish tax and employment office. If something goes wrong you aren’t liable. It also means we can provide deductible invoices if you are a business, autonomo or moving for work.

We use sensible sized vans, because Luton or Box vans are illegally overweight when full (or even half full). Which means we are always insured and your furniture won’t be left at the side of the road if stopped and weighed by police.

Happy New Year, Happy New Van!
But, what would you name it?

It’s with great sadness that Bertha the Transit 350 that we all know and love will be retired to long distance and out of city moves only. As of 2026 like all B sticker vehicles, she won’t always be allowed to enter the majority of large cities across Spain and Europe as she is deemed too environmentally unfriendly for low emission zones. She has clocked over 300,000 kilometres, moved thousands of people near and far as well as transported motor bikes, yacht parts, pianos and pool tables. She was named Big Bertha by Nicola Smith of Homesmith.es and the name stuck.

If you live in Barcelona or any other major city in Spain or Europe with a ULEZ Zone, don’t worry because there’s a new van waiting to take your stuff where you need it to go! It’s a new Transit 350 that drinks Adblue, emits fairy dust and hugs trees and the rest of the environment wherever it goes. It’s also 2 cubic metres larger even though by some witchcraft, being 30 cm shorter. Which means it can take more stuff for less on ferries!

The only thing left to do it name it! Any suggestions? I’m thinking Greta, what do you think?

Moving to and from the U.K
What you need to Know 👇

Being a well rated removal company based on the Barcelona and Tarragona border we work with a lot of expats from the U.K. As such we are often asked for a quote to move to or from the United Kingdom from clients who are unaware of what’s involved since Brexit.

What you need to know before considering a move whether doing it yourself or hiring a removal company.

Tax:
Have you lived as a resident in the place where your furniture is now for at least 12 months?
If the answer is yes then you can still move your items from the EU to the U.K. or the other way around Tax free. Depending on the direction of the move the process for relief is slightly different, but as a transfer of residence it will be tax exempt.

If the answer is no, for example it’s a second home, holiday home or you don’t have residency you will have to pay import tax at the destination. In addition it’s a highly complicated process, very expensive to complete and requires a lot of paperwork. In my experience most people find it easier and more cost effective to sell the stuff and move the money.

For this reason I would highly recommend checking your Tax free status before planning a move. You can do this by searching TOR 1 application on the HRMC site or by contacting your nearest Aduana (Customs office) in Spain.

Costs:
Any vehicle carrying weight and travelling 3200 kilometres to and from a destination isn’t cheap. When there is an Island and the country with the most motorway tolls on the planet to contend with, then it’s expensive. In addition since Brexit there is also an Import document, Export document, MRN and Port Stamp needed and as a result freight tickets needed for the crossing. To obtain all of these there are also more hours labour needed to weigh everything you move across the border.
Here is an example of costs for a 10 cubic metre (Typical Transit Panel Van) from Barcelona to Folkestone.
Fuel: 900.00 to 1072.00 Euros
Tolls: 199.40 Euros
Freight Ticket: 450 - 600 Euros
Customs Brokers: 170 Euros
Total WITHOUT a Removal Company or Van hire charges included 1718.40 - 2040.40 Euros depending on the time of year for crossing and price of fuel.

Believe it or not, this is the cheapest method of moving. Trucks and Lorries multiply the costs exponentially.

So cost price is 200 euros per cubic metre as a minimum. With this in mind, I’d recommend really thinking about what you need to take with you and what is worth taking with you. Your 200 euro Ikea bed for example is going to cost 400 euros to move. Your sofa 800 euros to move, but your washing machine only 50 euros.
