Business class is where the thieves go. Not economy.
Sam Chui's reel here stopped me cold.
He left his wallet in the seat storage box on a flight into Dubai.
His fault, he says. Got it back two days later.
The cash was gone.
Then the comments started.
Air France, Paris to Hong Kong. Cabin crew caught a man going through bags at night. Arrested on landing.
KLM. A passenger woke up to someone in her bag.
Another flight. A wallet lifted from under the seat in front.
Sam's point: organised gangs now buy premium seats on the Dubai, Hong Kong and Bangkok routes, because that's where the sleeping, well-off passengers are.
Over 16 years running airport transfers from Farnborough, and I've heard versions of this at Heathrow arrivals more times than I'd like.
Here's what our regulars do:
Lock the bag before you sleep. Every time.
Wallet and passport stay on you, never in the storage box.
Split your cards. One in the hand luggage, one on your person.
Save your airline's lost-property number before you board.
And on the ground: if you've lost something on the flight, tell the driver meeting you. Ours have walked people back to the airline desk while the car waits. That's the difference a booked driver makes over a taxi rank.
What's the worst thing you've lost, or nearly lost, on a plane?
