This Week at WATBus 🚍

It's been a busy week across all areas of WATBus as everyone returned to school after a well-earned and restful half-term break.

Our drivers and passenger assistants have loved hearing all about the children's adventures, holidays and exciting stories from their week off. It's always a pleasure to welcome everyone back and catch up on what they've been up to!

Away from the school runs, it has been another busy week for the wider WATBus team. We were proud to support the Electric Cranks on their cycling challenge in Scotland, helping to keep things running smoothly along the way.

Closer to home, we provided two buses and volunteer support to help transport people to Vision Northumberland's Equipment Day, ensuring attendees could access the event and the valuable information and support on offer.

Thursday also saw three members of the WATBus management team, along with one of our valued volunteers, travel to Manchester to attend the Community Transport Awards. Events like these are a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of community transport organisations across the country, share ideas and learn from others in the sector.

Alongside all of this, our Out & About service has been as busy as ever, helping members of the community get to appointments, social groups, shopping trips and other important journeys.

A huge thank you to all of our staff, volunteers and supporters who continue to go above and beyond every day. Whether it's a school run, community trip, special event or appointment, every journey makes a difference.

And finally, as if we needed an excuse... today is National Fish and Chip Day! 🐟🍟 After such a busy week, we think we've earned the right to treat ourselves. If you're celebrating too, let us know where your favourite chippy is!

Have a fantastic weekend everyone! 😊

WATBus are pleased to be supporting the Electric Cranks cycle group on their fundraising tour of Scotland this week.

The Electric Cranks are a unique group of pre and post-op heart and lung outpatients riding pedal-assisted electric bikes across Scotland as part of an inspiring journey focused on recovery, wellbeing and supporting one another.

Many of the riders are themselves “e-humans” — living with LVADs (Left Ventricular Assist Devices), implanted mechanical heart pumps powered by external batteries. Their journeys are supported by the incredible specialist teams at Wythenshawe Hospital Transplant Centre, who provide ongoing care, monitoring and equipment support.

WATBus are proud to have provided transport support for the trip, along with our driver Simon, free of charge to help support this fantastic cause and the team throughout their journey. By providing this support at no cost, we hope even more of the money raised can go directly back into supporting this amazing cause and the people involved.

The 2026 challenge takes riders along the Union and Forth & Clyde Canals and the John Muir Way from Clydebank to Dunbar between 2nd–4th June, with stops including the Falkirk Wheel, the Kelpies and Edinburgh as part of the route.

If you'd like to support the team and make a donation, please visit the Electric Cranks fundraising page:

Wishing the whole team the very best of luck for the rest of the tour. ❤️

Big shout out to our driver Lee 👏💙

Staff at Cleasewell Hill School were speaking to Northumberland County Council compliance officers yesterday and made a point of singing Lee’s praises for the brilliant job he does. They spoke about the extra mile he goes every single day and how much it’s noticed and appreciated.

The compliance officers were so impressed by the feedback that they rang our boss Barry personally to make sure Lee was recognised for the fantastic work he does.
It’s always great to hear such positive comments and we’re really proud to have Lee as part of the team.

Well done Lee !

Mental Health Awareness Week begins Monday 11th May. 💚

It’s a reminder that looking after our mental wellbeing is just as important as looking after our physical health.

A friendly conversation, a small act of kindness, or simply checking in on someone can make a real difference.

If you’re struggling, remember — you don’t have to face things alone.

Today we remember and honour all those who served during VE Day and the sacrifices made for future generations. 🇬🇧
A day to reflect, remember and give thanks to those whose courage and resilience will never be forgotten.
Lest we forget. ❤️

💙 Tourette’s Awareness Month is here — and it matters.
Behind every tic is a person with dreams, humour, resilience, and a whole world of personality.
People with TS navigate challenges most never see, and they deserve patience, kindness, and respect.
If you know someone with Tourette’s, remind them you see them — not just their tics.
If you don’t, this month is a great time to learn. A little understanding goes a long way 💛
Let’s show compassion. Let’s listen. Let’s uplift.

Our caravan is filling up! We are so pleased to receive this review from one of our recent WATBreak Caravan guests:
"Everything was amazing, the shorter steps with the rail to access the caravan is wonderful. There’s a lot of room indoors and on the patio. A lovely break and relaxing, it was much needed. We’ll return for certain!”.

WATBreak focuses on accessibility for everyone. We have thoughtful features like shorter steps, handrails and generous space get guests with mobility challenges a stress‑free, comfortable and enjoyable holiday experience.
