Summer storms can be intense, with a lot of rain falling in a short period of time, which may sometimes lead to sudden or “flash” flooding. Flash floods are particularly dangerous as they often happen with little to no warning, with deep, fast-moving water. Such flooding is often very localised, but where it does occur, damage and risk to life can sometimes be serious.

You should not attempt to walk or drive through the water. Move to higher ground or the upper floor of a building if it's safe to do so. Call 999 if you need emergency help.

***UPDATE - Due to complexities at the site these works have been extended until 15 June.***

Emergency gas works are taking place on Oxford Road in Stone.

These works are being carried out by Southern Gas Networks following a gas escape. Multiway traffic signals are in place, which may cause delays, especially at busy times.

We are monitoring the works closely and have asked for the signals to be manually controlled between 7am and 7pm to help keep traffic moving.

Thank you for your patience while this essential work is carried out.

"There were no signs, so I didn't know the speed limit in this village". If you're not sure of the speed in a village, drive no faster than 30mph.

Top Tip! Streetlights generally indicate a 30-mph speed limit unless road signs tell you otherwise.

We are now three months into Buckinghamshire Highways’ countywide capital plane and patch programme, which will continue through to October.

Plane and patch is a proactive and preventative maintenance approach, targeting isolated areas of road surface defects before they develop into more extensive damage. By removing (planing) and replacing (patching) sections of worn surfacing, the programme helps to extend the overall life of the network, improve ride quality, and reduce the need for more significant reconstruction works in the future. Since the programme began earlier this year, multiple sites across the county have been identified and treated based on condition data and safety considerations, ensuring investment is directed where it will have the greatest impact.

One recent example is Totteridge Road in High Wycombe, where approximately 230m of road was resurfaced between Lucas Road and Queen Street. These works have improved drivability and enhanced safety for all road users.

As with all schemes delivered through the programme, the works included reinstatement of road markings, including two bus stop boxes, helping to maintain clear, compliant, and easy-to-navigate routes.

The programme will continue across Buckinghamshire over the coming months, supporting our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and reliable highway network through our rolling £120 million investment programme.
