A T1 transit guarantee is a document that acts as a financial guarantee that ensures customs duties and other charges are paid when goods arrive at their destination country. T1 documents are used to move goods across borders without completing import clearance, which means that import duty and VAT are not paid until the goods arrive at their destination. T1 documents are essential for shipments that are destined to go further inland than France or another sea border of the EU.

If the goods are not delivered to the customs checkpoint of the desired destination, the agent that issued the guarantee will be obligated to pay the customs duties. The guarantee provides security for any duties that may become liable for if movements are not discharged properly. This debt is not chargeable if movements are closed properly at their destination.

Failure to comply with the terms and conditions of the T1 bond can result in penalties, including the forfeiture of the bond amount. Customs authorities have the right to take legal action against the bondholder for non-compliance.

What characters make up the MRN number?
The MRN is an 18-character ID, made up of both numbers and letters. The 18-character MRN contains the following elements:
Year – current year is noted as two digits, so 2024 becomes ‘24’
Country code – your two-digit geographical code. For United Kingdom, this is shown as ‘GB’
14-character alphanumeric reference, which is randomly generated in CDS
The CDS Movement Reference Number is equivalent to the CHIEF entry number that includes the EPU.

RORO, Roll On Roll Off - your products do not leave the vehicle they are in to go onto the cargo ship. The vehicle simply drives onto the ship, and then drives off the other end.
Dry bulk shipping - used for some specific items, which are deposited into the hold of the ship instead of travelling in a container.

'Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). Better known as the Middle Corridor, the TITR is a network of transport routes that replicates the ancient Silk Road, extending from China to Europe across Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, and the Caucasus into Turkey. Operational since 2017, the Middle Corridor is a multimodal transport system relying mostly on existing basic rail and port infrastructure. Last year, it handled just 2.3 million tonnes of cargo. But forecasts by the World Bank indicate that with significant infrastructural upgrades this volume could reach 11 million tonnes by 2030. To make sure this happens, the EU has already allocated €10 billion to related infrastructure through its Global Gateway initiative and is considering expanding its involvement' (https://ecfr.eu/).
