Travelling with lots of luggage? No problem! Today’s family of 3 heading home to the USA from had a total of 9 cases. These included a rather large case plus 8 smaller bags and cases, a pushchair and baby seat and all the usual things you just might need when travelling with a child.

No trouble for the Superb Estate, all safely placed in the boot with nothing in the passenger compartment except the most valuable of all their items, a very happy, smiley 14 month old 👶🏻🍼

The safety and security of all our passengers is our absolute priority. With this in mind how can a 12 year gap in a drivers background be acceptable for any driver carrying the public?

This is happening throughout the UK, and we are now seeing an increase in private hire cars working in East Hampshire licensed by authorities such as Fareham, Portsmouth, Epsom & Ewell and even areas further afield such as Wolverhampton! These mostly operate using apps like Uber but are also used for driving local children on SEN school contracts.

The general feeling within East Hampshire is that we benefit from some of the safest and most stringent licensing requirements to protect the public. We appreciate that fair competition and value is important within our industry, however safety must never be compromised.

Please consider this when hiring a driver and insist on an EHDC licence, supporting your local businesses with drivers who pay their licensing fees back into our local authorities rather than obtaining the cheapest or easier option elsewhere.

🟦 FAREHAM GRANTS PH LICENCES TO DRIVERS WITH OVERSEAS BACKGROUND CHECK GAPS DUE TO CONFLICTS

Fareham Borough Council’s licensing panel has approved private hire licences for two applicants despite significant gaps in their overseas criminal records, ruling that both men are "fit and proper" to work.

The decisions, made during a meeting on June 16, mark a departure from standard licensing policies due to what councillors described as exceptional circumstances beyond the drivers' control.

The first applicant, "Mr H," was granted a licence despite a 12-year gap in his history caused by the collapse of the Afghan government.

Born in Afghanistan, Mr H explained he was in education before leaving the country, moving to the United Arab Emirates in 2022 and arriving in the UK in 2025. Because official records were wiped following the Taliban’s return to power, he could not provide a certificate of good conduct.

The panel noted that Mr H had a completely clear UK Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and DVLA driving licence. Councillors concluded that the missing records were not his fault and that there was "no evidence of a risk to public safety."

The second applicant, "Mr G," had his licence approved despite missing background checks from Sri Lanka prior to his move to the UK in 2006.

Mr G told the panel he could not safely return to his home country due to his political stance, and his elderly parents were unable to secure the document for him.

Acknowledging these exceptional reasons, the panel approved his licence but changed the standard terms to restrict it "to the duration of Mr G’s right to work in the UK."

Things are a little different at Terminal 4 at the moment. A new car park is being built so the short term is currently closed.

For my collection today I parked in long term parking, got the bus to the terminal to meet my passengers travelling to to assist them with their luggage and guide them through the new process when arriving at Terminal 4.

I will always try and make pickup as easy as possible for you, especially useful for those who rarely travel and maybe unfamiliar with the layout. Trying to follow directions to temporary meeting points, managing luggage and finding your drivers car amongst all the others is not what you need when you arrive at an airport!
