***URGENT NOTICE***

***IN THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR CUSTOMERS AND DRIVERS SAFETY/WELLBEING WE WILL REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE***

A collective decision to temporary suspend all services on the 27th of March 2020 was made for the SAFETY and WELLBEING of the public and all drivers.

A number of Private Hire/Taxi firms in the local area have started operating again.

The UK has seen the hospital death toll of Covid-19 victims reach nearly 12,000 and is increasing daily!!! The victims dying elsewhere such as care homes is not even included in the count.

You will no doubt be aware that a huge number of the Covid-19 Victims have been people from the transport sector including taxi drivers & bus drivers etc. It’s extremely scary to imagine how many of those drivers contracted the virus from a customer and then passed on the virus to their families and members of the public during their daily work which have resulted in fatalities. Two members of the Private Hire/Taxi Trade residing in Pendle have lost their lives due to Covid-19.

For the above reason, we feel that using a Private hire/Taxi vehicle during the current climate is not safe for the public or the drivers.

The public have managed to cope without the Private Hire/Taxi service for over 2 weeks. Thankfully we have wonderful volunteering services in both Burnley and Pendle that can help you FREE of charge with all your essential needs in a proper controlled and measured way without putting you at risk.

Please THINK carefully and logically about the following before sitting in any Taxi;

* With 2 passengers and a driver will you be maintaining a safe recommended 2 meter distance?

* The money being paid and change received, is it contaminated?

* the last person to sit in the vehicle was he/she unknowingly a Carrier of the virus and have they contaminated the vehicle?

* Has the driver really throughly sanitised everything you have touched in the vehicle?

* Is it really worth taking the risk???

No Taxi firm or driver can 100% GUARANTEE that EVERY vehicle will be correctly sanitised after EVERY journey. It’s just not practically possible.

The cost and time required to properly sanitise a vehicle outweighs the ÂŁ3 journey you will be taking. You will be putting yourself and your families lives at risk.

The healthcare and authorities are saying that here in east Lancashire we are approximately 10 days behind the level of the coronavirus crisis in the London. This will get worse before it goes away.

The Private Hire/Taxi firms like us who are keeping their service suspended in Burnley and Pendle are taking a massive financial loss but are only doing so for Public and drivers safety.

We would again like to thank our customers who have been extremely supportive & understanding during this very difficult time.

Please stay home, stay safe and look after your loved ones!

We will be back as soon as it is practically possible when it is safe in accordance with the NHS and government guidance.

**URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT**

**Taxi - Private Hire Trade in Burnley temporarily suspend service due to Coronavirus Covid 19 Pandemic**

Usman Arif, on behalf of the trade..

Following detailed discussions and consideration of the guidance from the government and the local authority for private hire trade, the licensed operators in Burnley have been forced to make a very tough decision.

In the best interest of the general public and private hire drivers, the trade have come to a collective decision to cease their services as of 6PM today (27.03.2020) until further notice. The situation will be assessed in line with government guidelines and business will collectively reconvene when it is safe to do so.

Public safety is priority. The public will be much safer using their own vehicles or getting a lift off a friend or a family member. There is of course the community hub which will be providing vital services to those most in need.

There are a number of reasons why continuing the trade would potentially spread the killer virus much faster than normal. We have listed below just a few of the possibilities.

* The trade handles cash which is one of the major ways of transmitting this virus

* It’s not practically possible to maintain the government recommended two meter social distancing within an enclosed proximity of a vehicle

* It’s not practically possible to properly sanitise every vehicle internally and externally after each journey before picking up the next customer

* If a driver becomes a carrier of the virus unknowingly and is not showing any symptoms he/she will transmit the virus potentially to dozens of passengers every day without knowing

* The same driver will transmit the virus to their own family members when he returns from work which potentially puts children and elderly family members at huge risk

* There are a huge number of key workers in particular those working for the NHS and care services who could pick up the virus from using taxis and Private Hire vehicles. They could potentially pass the virus to vulnerable people that they or treating and their own family members

The Trade appreciate that this will cause a huge disruption to those that use them on a daily basis. There will be huge financial implications for the hundreds of drivers and operators across the borough however the public’s and driver’s safety is paramount during this Coronavirus Covid 19 Pandemic.

People’s lives are at risk, this is an extremely important issue and must be taken very seriously.

The trade would like to thank the people of Burnley for being understanding during this very difficult time.

Please look after your loved ones, we pray for everyone’s wellbeing and safety and hope to see you all on the other side in the very near future.

Please feel free to share to spread the word
