There are some tickets available on the day, every day. If you are in the area, the guard on the platform with the train, does have some tickets available to purchase - these are cash only tickets. Please arrive around 1 hour before the departure time for either the morning train - departure 10.15 or afternoon train - departure 12.50.

THE JACOBITE IS BACK.

Booking is now open for the 2026 season. Steam departs Fort William at 10:15 every morning, seven days a week, crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct on its way to Mallaig and the silver sands of Morar.

One train a day, to 23 October.

Carnforth railway station was opened on 22 September 1846. Made famous as the filming location for the classic movie Brief Encounter, Carnforth Railway Station is the perfect place to begin a nostalgic rail adventure.

The beloved film tells the story of two married strangers in pre-World War II England whose chance meeting at a railway station leads to a brief yet deeply emotional romance. The iconic clock from the 1945 cinematic classic is a prominent fixture at Carnforth Railway Station. Originally installed in 1895, the timepiece was famously featured in the film as the backdrop for the emotional goodbyes between Celia Johnson and Trevor

Carnforth station is one of the departure stations for the Scarborough Spa.

From this iconic station, sit back and enjoy the charm of steam travel as we journey through stunning countryside towards the Yorkshire coast and the timeless resort of Scarborough.

In the Spotlight – LMS Royal Scot Class 6115 Scots Guardsman

LMS Royal Scot Class 6115 Scots Guardsman is a preserved British 4-6-0 steam locomotive, originally built in 1927 by the North British Locomotive Company. In 1928, the locomotive was named Scots Guardsman in honour of the Scots Guards. Following the nationalisation of Britain’s railways in 1948, it was renumbered 46115 by British Railways.

In 2008, the locomotive was purchased and fully restored to operational condition by West Coast Railways. Its return to the main line was marked on 16 August 2008, when it hauled its first railtour, The Settle–Carlisle Venturer, from Hellifield to Carlisle.

On 20 June 2012, Scots Guardsman took part in the 2012 Summer Olympics Torch Relay, carrying the Olympic Torch from York to Thirsk. During the event, soldiers from the 1st Battalion Scots Guards stood proudly in their traditional red tunics alongside their famous namesake locomotive.

Today, 46115 Scots Guardsman remains a popular and much-loved locomotive on Britain’s heritage railways. Over the years, it has become a regular performer, over the years, on The Dalesman excursions along the renowned Settle–Carlisle line, delighting railway enthusiasts and passengers alike.
