☀️ It's certainly a warm one across Mid Devon today.

According to my weather station here in Willand, the temperature has reached 32.5°C this afternoon. Even overnight it only fell to 18.7°C, with the lowest temperature recorded at 04:32 this morning.

With temperatures remaining unusually high, it's a good reminder to keep hydrated, take things a little easier where possible and try to stay cool.

It's also worth checking in on older relatives, neighbours and anyone who may be more vulnerable in this sort of heat, as well as making sure pets have plenty of fresh water and somewhere shaded to rest.

Hopefully everyone is managing to enjoy a little of the sunshine safely.

Did you know I spent 20 years working in aviation before starting Devon Transfers Private Hire?

Long before I was collecting passengers from Exeter and Bristol Airports, I spent my career working within the aviation industry, including roles at Bristol Airport, within airline operations and later in air traffic management.

Many of the skills and experiences from those 20 years still influence the way I work today.

One of the most memorable roles I held was working as a trained aircraft marshaller. Standing on the apron in front of a Boeing 757 or Airbus A321 and guiding it safely onto stand was always a strange feeling. Despite the size of the aircraft, your focus is simply on keeping it accurately lined up and stopping it in exactly the right position.

Unfortunately, this was long before everyone carried a high-quality camera in their pocket, so I don't have many photographs from those days. However, if you look closely at the photo, you'll spot one of Bristol Airport's yellow marshalling vehicles from that period.

Although my career has taken a different direction, many of those experiences still influence how I approach airport transfers and the service I provide to my customers.

With airport transfers now forming a major part of the business, I recently wrote a blog about my aviation background and how those 20 years continue to help me plan, prepare and deliver journeys today.

When I launched Devon Transfers Private Hire in 2024, I accepted a wide variety of enquiries and journey types across Mid Devon. Like most new businesses, I wanted to help as many people as possible.

As the business developed, it became clearer which journeys best suited both the vehicle and the type of service I wanted to provide.

Today, my focus is on:

These are the moments where good communication and reliability matter most. Whether it's a 3am airport pickup, coordinating wedding guest transport, monitoring a delayed flight or ensuring a train connection runs smoothly, these are often the journeys where customers value having a familiar face and a service they can rely on.

That’s why I’ve chosen to focus on these types of journeys.

For shorter local daytime trips, there are some excellent local taxi companies who are often better placed for that type of work.

Looking back, I think that may be one of the reasons so many bookings now come from recommendations, repeat customers and returning families.

🚧 A quick travel update for anyone using Bristol Airport this summer.

I've been keeping an eye on a series of planned overnight M5 closures between Junctions 23 and 25, taking place on various dates between 14 June and 6 August.

The planned works will affect both northbound and southbound carriageways on different dates. With many airport transfers involving early morning departures and late-night arrivals, it's exactly the sort of information I like to know about well in advance.

Fortunately, most customers never need to think about roadworks, diversion routes or motorway closures — that's part of my job.

Any customers travelling to or from Bristol Airport during this period can rest assured that I'll be keeping a close eye on the planned works and making any adjustments needed behind the scenes.

Hopefully the works will cause very little disruption, but I'd always rather be prepared than caught out on the day.

One thing I've realised running Devon Transfers Private Hire is that people often remember the small details most.

The message to say I've arrived early.

The reassurance that flights, traffic and routes are already being monitored behind the scenes.

The extra few moments helping an elderly passenger or family member in and out of the vehicle if needed.

The calm communication before an early-morning airport departure or late-night return.

Or simply knowing everything is organised and running smoothly without having to think about it.

Reading recent reviews and kind comments has reminded me that it's often these little things that make the biggest difference.

✨ 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 – 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀, 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 & 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 🚐✨

May has been a busy one across Mid Devon — early airport runs, wedding days, station transfers and all sorts of journeys where I’ve been helping people get where they need to be without the stress.

I’ve definitely noticed more people choosing Exeter Airport for their summer holidays this year. With TUI basing two aircraft there for the season, lots of families are starting their trips closer to home rather than travelling further afield. Those early-morning Exeter departures have certainly become a familiar part of my month.

There’s been a steady mix of Bristol Airport runs too, along with regular journeys to Tiverton Parkway and a lovely group trip down to the Sidmouth Jazz Festival in the sunshine.

Wedding season has properly started now as well. It’s always a privilege being trusted with those important moments — making sure guests arrive on time, keeping things running smoothly in the background and taking a little pressure off the day for people.

☀️ It’s definitely feeling more like summer out there this Bank Holiday weekend!

As lovely as the sunshine is, don’t forget to keep hydrated, take it easy in the heat where you can, and check in on older relatives, neighbours and pets too 🐶💧

The roads are already looking busier across Devon, so if you’re travelling anywhere this weekend, allow a little extra time and stay safe. It’s also worth taking some extra water with you in the car just in case of traffic delays or breakdowns in the heat.

Great to see Exeter Airport expanding its summer routes ✈️🌴

Two TUI aircraft now based at Exeter means even more choice for local travellers flying from Mid Devon this summer.

I’m actually on my way to collect passengers arriving back from Zante now — one of the big advantages of flying local is being home so much quicker after landing.

Exeter Airport really is becoming an increasingly convenient option for Mid Devon travellers.

What a morning! We’re celebrating the arrival of our second based TUI aircraft for the summer season ✈️🌴

It was exciting to see two TUI planes parked side by side on the apron. This morning, passengers jetted off to Zante and Lanzarote, and this afternoon, the planes will head out to Dalaman and Palma de Mallorca.
