Arrangements have been made to allow only taxis into William Street via Strand Road to drop off and pick up only. Taxis can also exit Strand Road area via Victoria car park. Taxis will be allowed to go up Fahan Street past security and turn at the top and go down again. Taxis can also drop off at Customs House Street and turn and come out again. Taxis will be allowed up Bishop Street and turn at Alexander House. Ferry Quay Street will close at 2 o'clock to allow set up for the nighttime events.
We encourage all taxi drivers to stay safe and be aware of the high volumes of people walking in the city centre over the Halloween period.
Derry City & Strabane District Council Halloween Festival
Tuesday 28th – Friday 31st October 2025
As part of this year’s Derry Halloween celebrations, the Awakening the Walled City Trail will take place over three nights, 28th, 29th, and 30th October, from 6pm to 9pm each evening. This animated trail will transform the city centre into a magical experience, allowing large numbers of visitors to enjoy a variety of themed installations and performances throughout the area.
On Friday 31st October, the Carnival Parade and Halloween Fireworks Finale will kick off from Queens Quay at 7pm.
Traffic restrictions
Motorists are advised to expect some delays and diversions in the City Centre during the four nights of the Halloween Programme. In the interest of safety, several roads and carparks will be closed to traffic or will have traffic restrictions in place for the event:
Halloween Carnival Parade:
The Carnival Parade begins at 7pm (starting and finishing at Queen’s Quay) followed by the Fireworks Finale at 8.15pm.

Queens Quay Car Park ➡ Boating Club Lane ➡ Strand Road ➡Harbour Square Roundabout ➡ Foyle Embankment to Junction of Water Street ➡ Returning along Foyle Embankment ➡Queens Quay ➡ Finishing Queens Quay Car Park
Traffic Restrictions for the Carnival Parade on Friday 31st October:
▶ Lane closures will be introduced along Strand Road and Foyle Embankment in advance of the parade. Strand Road lane closure (city-bound traffic) from Fletcher Ave to Queen’s Quay Roundabout and Foyle Embankment to Water Street will be operational from 6pm - 9pm.
▶ The fireworks will fire from two barges on the River Foyle - in the interest of Safety, the Peace Bridge will be closed from 7pm. It will reopen at 9pm when deemed safe.
▶ Strand Road, Harbour Square, Queens Quay, Whittaker Street and the Foyle Embankment, between Water Street and the City Hotel, will be closed to traffic between 6pm - 9pm. Alternative diversion routes will be available.
Please note that all times are approximate and that road closures and diversions will be kept to the minimum length necessary to ensure safety.
Car Park Closures
Bishop Street ( Motor Home Parking) 28th Oct – 1st Nov Full Closure

Victoria Market (Accessible Parking) 28th – 31st Oct Partial Closure

Accessible drop-off points include Custom House Street, Bishop Street Without and Strand Road.
The public are encouraged to use Foyleside and Quayside car parks. Accessible carparking will be available at Victoria Market Carpark from 28th – 31st October and Strand Road Carpark on the 31st October. These will operate on a first come first served basis.
Parking Restrictions:
▶ Drivers are reminded that they should avoid parking anywhere that may block entrances to residences or businesses or where they may be obstructing emergency access.
▶Businesses and residents who use private city centre carparks eg Upper Magazine Street are asked to ensure their vehicles have exited before 4pm from the 28th – 30th.
▶No Parking coning will be in place in Whittaker Street, Shipquay Street, Magazine Street, The Diamond, Bishop Street Within, Artillery Street, Fountain Street, Hawkin Street, Kennedy Street, New Market Street
▶From 4pm the city centre (within the Walls) will be closed off to accommodate the large volume of visitors arriving and any moving vehicles can cause risk to life. The City Walls will be closed to the public 17:00 – 21:00 from the 28th – 30th October, the only section of the Walls that will remain open will be from the Millennium Forum to Bank Place.
