⛽ Petrol was roughly 60p a litre

💷 And £5 in your pocket meant you were basically Scrooge McDuck aka Archie for the week!

This isn't a sales post.

It's simply some advice from someone who spends a lot of time around home moves.

Most people move home only a handful of times in their lives, so comparing quotes can be difficult.

When looking at removal companies, don't just ask:

❌ "How much is it?"

Also ask:

✅ What happens if the move takes longer than expected?

✅ What happens if something doesn't fit?

✅ What happens if access is more difficult than expected?

✅ Are storage options available if plans change?

✅ Is future redelivery included if storage is required?

✅ Is dismantling and reassembly included?

✅ Are appliance disconnection and reconnection included?

✅ Is the company insured?

✅ Can they provide reviews or references?

✅ Do they have a clear plan for the move?

💡 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲.

A professional quotation should explain:

📋 What vehicle is being used

📋 How many staff are required

📋 Expected timescales

📋 Any access challenges

📋 Storage arrangements (if needed)

📋 What happens if plans change

If somebody can give you a price, they should be able to explain how they arrived at it.

💡 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘀.

If a company offers a discount, don't be afraid to ask where the saving comes from.

A good company should be able to explain:

✅ Why the discount exists

✅ What is included

✅ What isn't included

✅ Whether the level of service changes

Some discounts are genuine. For example, early payment incentives, filling a cancellation slot, or a quieter day in the diary.

Understanding the reason behind a discount can sometimes be just as important as understanding the price itself.

A cheaper quote isn't necessarily a bad quote.

A more expensive quote isn't necessarily a better one.

The important thing is understanding exactly what is included and what happens if things don't go exactly to plan.

Unfortunately, most of the horror stories we hear don't start on moving day.

They start at the quotation stage.

🚫 "I thought that was included."

🚫 "Nobody mentioned extra charges."

🚫 "We didn't realise storage was extra."

🚫 "The van wasn't big enough."

🚫 "They couldn't do the stairs."

🚫 "We had to arrange another vehicle."

Whether you choose us or somebody else, our advice is always the same:

📋 Ask questions.

📋 Get everything in writing.

📋 Make sure there's a plan.

📋 Make sure you're comparing like-for-like services.

A good removal company should reduce stress, not create it. A clear plan that you can refer back to throughout the move is one of the biggest green flags when comparing removal companies.
