It’s a good start and with a minute on the clock, Woodsy makes it 1-0.
We should have another couple, but eventually get one through Struan.
We look like we are going to score every time we go forward and should be well ahead but we are naive defensively for once and lose a goal and then a couple of minutes later give away a crazy penalty and just like that it’s 2-2.
We roll the sleeves up again and get back in front with a great header from Imran for 3-2 at HT.
2nd half start is ticking over and not really many chances this time round but after we win a header in the box and there is a clash of heads, Echt are given a free kick and we get a man sent off for shouting when the player crossed it, apparently.
Down to 10, the boys are still giving everything but aren’t getting much help after a few really heavy tackles
With the clock ticking down, Echt swing a cross in and their player headers in at the back post.
A Couple of minutes later a ball over the top, looks 10 yards offside, it’s no surprise that they score and the ref gives the goal. An absolute boot in the balls for the boys in black and white.
We keep trying to go forward with 10 men, there is a load of time to be added on, due to how many injuries we have had, but things are made even harder when we get another man sent off for the softest collision you will ever see, incredible
We are still trying to get back in it, but the ref flashes another red to us and we are down to 8, no idea what has happened this time.
Boys still don’t chuck it but they are running on empty and it finishes 4-3 to Echt.
Genuinely an absolute s**t show.
Had a bad feeling that powers to be outside of the 22 players might affect us as we’ve only ever had one game like that before……..it was the same outside influence.
All the best to Echt in the next round, a decent team and good lads. They are as bemused as we are with what went on.
Not all bad though, ladies day in the Downfield Clubbie. 😄
Huge thanks to Downfield Junior Football Club for the hospitality. 🕷️
