Here here ππΌ
Bear with me, Iβve had to do maths. Nobody likes maths.
With the hot weather warning this week, at some point weβll inevitably get the classic messages:
βWhy isnβt the air con working?β
βItβs hotter than the gates of hell on here!β
So, hereβs a quick explanation before the complaints start rolling inβ¦
Firstly, all of our coaches (apart from the ones old enough to remember decimalisation) have air conditioning. Every unit is serviced three times a year, and the latest service was literally two weeks ago.
However, air conditioning is a bit like magic. Most of the time it works brilliantly. Occasionally, when temperatures go nuclear, physics turns up and ruins everyoneβs day.
Hereβs where the maths comes inβ¦
A typical coach in our fleet is around 14 metres long, with approximately 140mΒ³ of air inside that needs cooling before you even start feeling the benefit.
Now compare that to your average car. Much smaller space, fewer windows, and usually only three people inside.
Our average coach carries around 70 passengers.
SEVENTY.
Thatβs roughly 24 times more people than your car, all generating heat, breathing, chatting, and generally existing at 37Β°C. Add in the giant windows acting like a mobile greenhouse and our air con units are basically fighting for their lives this week.
So if it feels warmer than youβd like, please donβt rush to ring or email us.
Weβre all suffering together.
Spare a thought for our drivers, who spend all day sat behind a windscreen the size of a conservatory, slowly roasting like a Sunday pork belly while smiling politely and pretending everything is fine.
So yes, itβs hot.
Yes, weβre leaking liquids from places we didnβt know could sweat.
But weβll get through this together.
Probably.
Stay hydrated, stay patient, and if you see one of our drivers this week, maybe offer them a cold drink or the weird one who always drinks coffeeβ¦yes tom, we mean you!
