Meet the boys! 🐶🩶💙

My transport customers will know these two well — and if you’ve ever travelled in the cab with me, you’ve probably had lots of smelly Frenchie kisses! 😅

Winston & Blue, our two French Bulldogs. These two go everywhere with me and absolutely loved the van dog life! They had a right shock to the system when I eventually stopped transporting at the end of my pregnancy and we were at home more… to be honest, it was a bit of a shock to my system too! 😅

We have had them both since they were puppies, and life would definitely be so boring without these two little rascals in our lives!

They have taken to their Big Brother duties with Georgie very well… although I’m really not sure how it’s going to work when I return to work with only two passenger seats and three children! 🤣🫣 Crew cab pending?! 🚐

Who’s going to tell Nathan that I don’t just need a new van… I practically need a minibus?! 🤣🤣

✨ MEET THE TEAM HORSE EDITION - Last but not least, Mr Finley 🦄

I bought Finn in 2023 as a 2-year-old; it was a bit of a spontaneous decision. I decided that if I was going to get another, I might as well get something I could eventually ride if I wanted to. Then I came across Finn’s advert on Facebook and fell in love.🩶🤍

He is an Irish Sport Horse. I spoke with his seller, and the next day set off in the box on my way to ‘see’ him 🤣. He was with a lovely dealer in Carmarthenshire, who couldn’t have been more honest about him. When I asked if there was anything wrong or anything I should know, he said, “If you can find something wrong with this horse, I’ll pay you!” 🤣🤣 Finn obviously came home with me that day!

We got in touch with his breeders, a lovely family in Ireland. They saw his photo on an IDSH page from when he was at the Great Yorkshire Show and messaged me. It is lovely to have been able to see photos of him when he was born, and of his mum, too.

He is honestly like a big dog and just loves people. We didn’t really have a plan, other than to break him in a few years’ time and just have fun!

I lightly backed him as a 4-year-old last year, but then I fell pregnant. I made the decision not to continue while pregnant; as good as he was, I’d have never forgiven myself if anything had happened.

But, I was never in a rush to do anything with him. And honestly, now he is 5 years old and lightly backed, I’m happy with where he is. He has filled out and grown quite a bit over the winter, and still looks a little bum-high.

We did a handful of shows in-hand as a 3-year-old, which he found quite exciting. Other than that, he’s been a baby, and bossing his sisters around at home!

Hopefully sometime this year I’ll get back on him, and in years to come we can enjoy some horsey adventures! 🥰🥰

Meet the team – well….our horses edition🤪

This is Esme! 💕

We got Esme in 2022. We needed a companion pony, having just 2 horses on the small yard where we kept them, and the whole situation of not being able to take one away (I’m sure you have all been there)!! SO … we went on the hunt for a little pony that looked like they needed a bit of TLC and an easy life — and we came across Esme. I’ll add some photos of when we first got her.

She is 5 years old, and the sweetest little pony you could wish for! She went from being underweight and with little life in her eyes, to being so cheeky & a little fatty!! A little too fat at one point. With her only being about 11.2hh, I was obviously too big to ride her, and she needed a bit of exercise — so we bought a cart and taught her to drive! I’ve broken many horses to ride, but I didn’t have much cart experience… but it couldn’t be that much different right?! 😏

It was definitely a learning experience for both me & Esme, but with her being the easiest pony ever — we did it! We only go for a walk and a bit of a trot round the block every now and then but it seemed to be enough just to keep her weight down!

When we found out I was pregnant, everyone was saying “oooo you’ll need a pony next!” 🤣 — but if Georgie does end up interested in the horses, I don’t think we could have a more perfect little pony waiting if we tried! So she may well be upgraded from companion pony to child’s pony in the future! 🤣🥰

We get asked a lot when people visit if we have our own horses… so here’s a little ‘meet our team’ and some photos 📸 👀

The ones that rule our lives daily & a bit about them! 🤎

First up…GG hoss!! 🐴🧡

My mum bought her for me (it’s Arnia btw)👋🏽 in 2014 for my 18th birthday. She was imported from Holland not long before we bought her and we found her ad on Facebook & bought her unseen as a 2-year-old! 🫣

She’s a Dutch Warmblood standing at 17.3hh… (I thought I was buying a 16.2hh!!) 🫪 buuuuttttt… we got over it fast — she’s the gentlest, most sensitive loving horse ever. Absolutely my horse of a lifetime! 💕

The plan when I got her was to enjoy her & do a bit of everything…I’d only really ever shown and never had anything of my own that was a bit of an all-rounder, so to go from owning my little 13.2hh PBA to a 17.3hh warmblood was a smidge different! 🤣

GG loved farm rides at Kelsall & Somerford, XC at Smallwood, beach trips & one of our favourite days was a visit to Farnley!

Sadly lots of lameness & hoof issues followed. After lots of tests & a bone scan, we found the causes which was heartbreaking for such a young horse and cut her ridden career extremely short.

She’s been retired for a number of years now… which was really hard at the time, but she honestly lives her BEST life: living out, unlimited food, freedom & a barn she can come & go from as she pleases with her 2 ‘little’ friends, Finn & ‘littler’ friend, Esme 🥹

And… it’s her 15th birthday this Saturday soooo….

CARROTS ALL ROUND!!!🎈🥕

Our self drive has been out this week with a lovely lady & her horse who was terrified of the horsebox. Here is the end result of her session with Patrick Gracey who works wonders with horses that struggle with loading and travelling amongst other issues. What a brave girl she is! 🥰

Our self drive can be hired for multiple days to get help out like this to practice, we believe this is the best way to help horses overcome their fears without rushing and overloading the already stressed horse in a short space of time. Repetition, smell steps, timing and positive experiences at the individual horses coping pace helps rewire the brain into creating a calmer, happier horse.

I will reshare the before video from paddy’s tiktok in the comments. Thank you Dannie for sending us your video! 🙂

☀️ How hot is too hot to transport your horses? 🥵

It’s quite unusual to have hot weather in this country, and most of us enjoy it when it happens … on the odd occasion it is really hot, a beach trip with the horses can seem like a great idea! BUT we must consider is it safe to travel our horses?

😎 When is it too hot?
As a type 1 equine transporter, we have guidelines from APHA and they usually remind us every year on hot weather conditions & cold weather conditions with things we should & shouldn’t do to keep everyone’s horses safe.

ℹ️ APHA say if you DO NOT have a temperature controlled vehicle you should NOT transport your horses in temperatures over 30 degrees. ℹ️

With a heat wave due next week I thought I would put some information out to make sure we are all keeping our horses safe during transportation. 🐎 ☀️

Exposure to high temperatures and humidity poses a serious risk to animal welfare during transport. Failing to account for hot conditions can lead to significant distress, and in severe cases, even death.

Humidity makes the impact of high heat far worse, increasing the level of suffering for animals. To stay cool in warm weather, animals rely on releasing water vapour through sweating or panting — but when humidity is high, this natural cooling process becomes much less effective. When high temperatures combine with high humidity, animals are at greatly increased risk of dangerous heat stress.

What can we do to make sure our horses are safe transporting during the warmer weather??

Firstly, ask yourself Is it essential to travel your horses today? If it is…

🐎 Avoid travelling during the hotter parts of the day
🐴 Travel early in the morning or overnight where possible
🐎 Plan your journey, route & check traffic before departing

☀️ EQUIPMENT & EACH INDIVIDUAL HORSE ☀️

What is my horse travelling in?
🐴 Bulky travel boots, rugs, and fluffy head collars could encourage your horse to overheat in hot weather
🐎 Consider if your horse loads and travels well; if your horse usually stresses or sweats on a cooler day he may overheat quickly

☀️ VENTILATION & MONITORING SUPPLIES ☀️

🐴 Consider the number of horses travelling and how much headroom the horses have for airflow around the Horsebox or trailer, some horseboxes can have the same effect as a green house depending on the materials the horsebox is made from and the colour of the Horsebox can impact how hot it gets too!

🐎 How many side windows, roof vents & fans does the horsebox have, is it enough to keep them cool today?

☀️ MONITORING & SUPPLIES TO HAVE WITH YOU ☀️

🐴 A thermometer in the horse area can provide you with accurate temperature readings
🐎 Ensure there is enough fresh water and hay
onboard for the journey length
🐴 Electrolytes can be added to your horse’s water to help rehydrate them

🔧 Is your horsebox reliable?

Check tyres, water, oil, ramp, floor, doors, fans, windows, etc the last thing anybody need is to break down, let alone on a hot day!! 🥵

🆘 Emergency contacts, do you have breakdown cover with horse recovery? Essential for anybody travelling horses whether by car and trailer or horsebox.
