Busy weekend for the gang down at Keighley!

We’ve been busy boxing the sleepers back in on Platform 3 and up in the headshunt.

As well as this, we’ve carried out some repairs to the fence at the top of the bank at Keighley, ready for next weekend’s Diesel Gala.

A great team effort all round, with plenty of hard work put in to keep the railway looking its best.

Another busy Friday night for a few of us last night. We were at Oakworth unloading the sleepers we collected last Friday, as well as carrying out a drainage stock take for an upcoming drainage project that we’ll be undertaking.

We also managed to clear one of the Lowmacs that was used during Civil Week for removing spoil from the Keighley Platform 3 site. The second wagon will be cleared in due course.

Last night saw a few of us head to Keighley with ‘Dora’ and the Fassi Wagon.

We first stopped at Oakworth to drop the newly repaired Shark brake van into the yard, along with a bag of screws and some fencing materials.

We then headed to Keighley Headshunt to collect the remaining 30 odd sleepers that had been left on the embankment following April’s Civil Week. These will be stored at Oakworth, but we’ll drop them off next Friday when we’re back out again with Dora and the Fassi Wagon.

Over the weekend the gang were out working in the Keighley area of the railway, with Saturday being spent at Bridge 5 carrying out fishplate greasing before a day of ballast regulating on the Keighley Headshunt.

Ballast regulating is the process of spreading the ballast to where it is needed to properly support and hold the track in place.

Something a bit different today as ‘Dora’ is out on the Works Train. While the gang crack on with track work, the Works Train is collecting up surplus materials from April’s Civil Week at Keighley.

We’ve been making good use of this lovely weather today, getting out w**d killing with our new w**d killing wagon, recently completed and now released into traffic.

Saturday and Sunday saw the gang out working at Keighley. The weekend started with the Works Train failing, meaning the tidying-up jobs that required the Fassi wagon couldn’t be completed. Despite this, we still managed to start boxing in the sleepers on the newly laid track, as well as rail drilling and fishplating the new lengths of rail installed into the headshunt. We also slewed the headshunt over so it was back in alignment.

All in all, a busy weekend for the gang, with the work at Keighley progressing well.

Last night saw the first of our new Friday night working sessions. It’s a good chance for us to get through some of the smaller jobs in our work programme.

Last night saw us working on Bridge 27, carrying out a bearing clean before moving on to clear catchpits at Ainley Falls and Dingly Dell, which are two drainage channels we installed into the banking at Haworth and Damems. We also carried out some ballast regulation at Haworth.
