🏆 WINNERS WEDNESDAY — WITH A TWIST 🚕💛🖤
Let’s start with a massive shoutout to the admins of Love Kirkcaldy — Colin, Neil & Louise who do a fantastic job keeping the community buzzing, giving local businesses a platform and keeping people connected. 👏
And while we’re talking about our community, here’s another shoutout that deserves to be made…
🚕 ALL THE LOCAL TAXI COMPANIES 🚕
The companies that have been serving Kirkcaldy and Fife for years and years, Kirkcaldy Cabs, Treble 20, Taxi Central, X Cabs, Magnum Taxis (Leven), Aqua Cabs (Dunfermline) and Prompt Taxis (Glenrothes) plus all the independent taxi drivers.
The owners who have built businesses from the ground up.
The operators answering the phones.
The drivers getting up early, working late and spending weekends away from their families.
And, most importantly, the people whose wages from this industry put food on the table and pay the bills at home. ❤️
Now, with Uber arriving in Fife, we’re seeing plenty of comments saying “It’ll be great for Fife” and “It’ll bring competition.”
And competition is part of business.
But perhaps we should also take a moment to think about the people behind the existing businesses.
Because imagine for a second that a huge company opened up right next to your workplace, took a significant chunk of your customers, your employer struggled to survive and eventually your workplace closed its doors.
Would you still be saying “Great news for the area”?
Probably not.
This isn’t about attacking Uber.
It’s about remembering that local taxis aren’t just cars on a rank.
They’re local businesses.
They’re local drivers.
They’re local families.
They’re people who have supported this community for decades, through good times, bad times, snow, storms, Christmases, New Year’s and everything in between.
So before we celebrate the arrival of a multinational company as the saviour of Fife’s taxi industry, perhaps spare a thought for the hundreds of local people already making a living from it.
Because behind every taxi is a person.
And behind every person is a family. ❤️
🚕 SO HERE’S THE CHALLENGE TO FIFE…
If you have a choice, use a local taxi company.
If you need a taxi, pick up the phone and call local.
If you’ve got a favourite local driver or company, tell people about them.
And if you’ve got friends, family or visitors who need a taxi, recommend the businesses that have been here supporting our communities for years.
Because supporting local isn’t just about putting money into a local business.
It’s about helping keep local people in work.
It’s about helping families pay their mortgages, rents, bills and put food on the table.
It’s about keeping money circulating within our communities.
And it’s about recognising the businesses and drivers who have already invested their time, money and lives into Fife.
You don’t have to hate Uber.
You don’t have to agree with everything local taxi companies do.
But if you believe in supporting local businesses, now is the time to actually do it.
🚕 USE LOCAL. SUPPORT LOCAL. KEEP LOCAL PEOPLE WORKING. ❤️
Because once a local business is gone, it’s very difficult to get it back.
And before anyone asks… 😂👇
