Today, I had the pleasure of visiting Liam Connolly Roadfreight in Lisnaskea, a family-run business that has grown since 1981 to become a major employer in Fermanagh and surrounding areas.
It was really important to hear first-hand from Andrew Connolly of Liam Connolly Roadfreight and Caitlin Delaney from the Road Haulage Association about the challenges facing the haulage industry, particularly for businesses operating along the border corridor. The ongoing impact of Brexit continues to create difficulties, while the high cost of insurance for young drivers and the lack of suitable roadside facilities are just some of the issues affecting the sector.
I will continue working with Liam Connolly Roadfreight and the wider haulage industry to ensure their voices are heard and to push for practical solutions that help local businesses grow, protect jobs and secure the future of this vital sector.
