I am deeply shocked and saddened by reports that yet another innocent child has lost their life at Mtito-Andei Subcounty Hospital. This tragedy adds to a growing list of deaths that could have been prevented, and which continue to cast a dark shadow over Makueni County.
Equally disturbing are reports that healthcare workers are operating under extremely difficult conditions, and in some instances face intimidation or victimisation when they raise legitimate concerns about service delivery. A healthcare system cannot function effectively when both patients and frontline workers are left vulnerable.
I call upon the people of Makueni to stand united and put the county leadership on notice: the protection of life must be the highest priority of any government. Our healthcare workers must also be protected, respected, and provided with a conducive working environment that enables them to serve our people effectively.
Leadership carries responsibility, and ultimately accountability. The people of Makueni will render their verdict when the time comes.
To the mother and family mourning the loss of a child at a moment that should have been filled with joy and celebration, I extend my deepest condolences. May God grant you strength, comfort, and peace during this painful period of grief.
